    Cardioide a piccolo diaframma

The good: terrific deep bass tone with no mid scoop; no hum from RF interference.

The bad: Wow it’s bright for a bass mic, but maybe you dig that. Better to cut than boost the highs certainly.

The ugly, and I mean UGLY: The whole clip attachment is a total disaster. It’s made of plastic, including the 5/8″ threads. You can’t separate the XLR from the mount and they are close together so some mic stands may be a problem. The plastic threads are so easy to strip and the 3/8-5/8″ adapter they include isn’t nearly as deep as the hole, so if you use it, your stand can easily destroy the threads as you tighten it. The whole clip attachment is vastly too fragile for live use.

The only remedy is to have a dedicated 5/8″ mic stand and NEVER remove the mic from it. You will need gobs of tape to stop the challenged from “helping” you pack up. You should probably also pack a spare.

This mic is excellent on bass cab and can be EQ’d into a good kick sound, but if you want a pre-EQ’d can’t-miss kick sound go with the e602 or beta52. For bass cab and other low instruments this can work very well studio or live.

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersBuy them: they work wonderfully.

Well constructed, solid mics that wont break the bank, but perform superbly in a live environment. I play regularly, and have heard dozens of different drum mics, these are up there with the big boys at a fraction of the price in terms of both sound and construction.

For studio, maybe these would stand out as cheaper mics, I couldn’t say, but for live work these are great.

Only downside is that the clips seems fragile. I had one snap on me the first time I tried to use it, but the vendor offered me a % refund which more than covered a replacement clip from the professional line, so all good. Just be careful, that’s all.

Honestly, these have more than exceeded my expectations. Very happy.

just wanted to get a great quality bass drum mic that didn’t break the bank… AKG D112 does it. Soundwise, you love it or you hate it, personally I’m quite fond of it, and was trying to avoid Beta 52s or Audix d6, just a matter of taste. Haven’t used it much yet but I’m familiar with the mk1, I loved the improved holder of the mkII, so much better than the mk1’s flimsy clip. Build quality looks and feels great.

Sure you can get more expensive condenser mics, but these are durable, sound great, and are extremely affordable!

Golden Review Award: 11 From Our UsersThis is my first small condenser mic so of course I think it’s the best I’ve ever had but I do know good quality mics from bad ones because of my experience with dynamics and LDCs of different qualities and manufacturers.

I bought a pair of these to use as a matched pair and even though they’re not technically matched they perform great in a stereo array.

Very low noise, great rejection from behind, and durable construction.

Alone or as a pair these mics sound great on acoustic guitars.

I’m no pro studio engineer. I’m just a guy who’s got a small home studio in a spare bedroom and these mics are great for my purposes. More than great. They make acoustic instruments sound amazing just like you hear them in the room thanks to their flat response and the 10dB pad is cool for when you want to mic an amp or drums. I recommend trying one of these with the pad on an amp. It gives electric guitar a different sound than you get from something like an SM57.

I would recommend this mic to someone on a budget in a home studio situation. If you go cheaper you’re going to get poor quality and have to upgrade your mic sooner rather than later. Of course there are more expensive SDCs and they’ll be better but I think this AKG is at the point where quality is great and spending more isn’t going to give you huge returns in terms of quality.

I can’t fault this mic. It’s built very well, it’s extremely tiny, and it weighs almost nothing. I cannot comment on how it sounds on drums or other instruments as I did not test it on any of those instruments. My reason for trying it as to use it in addition to an SM57 on a Mesa 1×12 guitar cab, hoping it could give me more sonic possibilities for recording. But as it turns out, it sadly didn’t work out for my purposes.

Some here feel it’s an SM57 with a wider range, but to me it’s the opposite – it sounds like an SM57 with the life sucked out of it, almost as if someone EQ’d out all of the mids. I tried using it on both clean and driven sounds, and despite placing it per the manual (and countless other ways), I never got a useable sound out of it either alone or when mixed with the 57. The only success I had with it was on clean sounds where it seemed to add some more of a thickness to the tone which was quite nice, but since I need something that supports both clean and driven sounds it’s basically useless to me.

Despite all of this, I would still recommend this mic to others as your applications may not be the same as mine.

This mic has stood the test of time. It’s robust, and versatile on low frequency instruments. I particularly love how it sounds on the floor tom more than the kick drum to be honest. It’s really great at getting punch out of the kick, but better to be paired with a kick-in mic like a senheisser e901 if you want a full sounding kick.

It’s also amazing on bass amps.

So can’t complain with this one, and for its price it’s really great value.

Does what it says on the tin, really. May seem a bit entry-level, but I’ve seen these used in high-end studios. (Incidentally, many engineers swear by a cheap SM on the snare too.)
You can get a nice clean, dry sound by just removing the front kick head, popping a blanket inside and sticking this in it. Good for a jazz sound, but you’ll also get a good signal if you want to process the channel (or even trigger-replace) for more welly in other styles.

Nice clean mic for recording acoustic guitars.

When I first got this mic I had some problems. I ran it directly into my mixer using phantom power but it was extremely hot. I mean HOT! The recordings were awful. Tried it at my buddy’s recording studio because he has much better equipment, same problem. But I found the solution.

I purchased a mic preamp, a Scarlett 2i2, and the difference was night and day. The preamp allowed me to dial the mic back a bit and the recording quality skyrocketed! I purchased two of these mics and they both sound great. I have recorded several hand made acoustic guitars and posted the audio on my Spencer Acoustics facebook page if you want to see what they sound like.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersIf you need a snare drum mic, and don’t want it to encroach into the playing zone, this is the mic for you! Superb sound and really small footprint and the rim clip works a treat, keeping it away from stray sticks. I had an SM57 before and it was far too long to be held on by a rim clip, so it was a case of another mic stand. Who wants to carry even MORE hardware than necessary?!

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersIf you’re on a limitted budget and looking for that sweet spot where you get the most for your money, this is it for acoustic instrument mics. I found this mic to be warm, accurate, and quiet. It also has good directional separation – so it has been useful to record different acoustic instruments (stringed) playing together simulataneously. For value, I give it 5 stars. There are better mics out there for recording acoustic instruments, but I don’t know of anything better in this price range. This is not a Cadillac, but it’s sort of like getting a Camry for the price of a used Chevette. If you’re starting into recording acoustic instruments, you should try one of these. For instruments, I think it is much better than AKG’s p220.

Great quality for the price. This microphone sounds great on the ride and crash symbols. I also used it on the hi-hat and hi tom and it still sounded greated.

The first one arrived and had to be returned as it was faulty the courier arrived the next day to pick it up free of charge and a replacement arrived the day after. A fantastic microphone with a brilliant warm clear sound worth every penny and the Amazon service was absolutely fantastic.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersQuite a decent bass microphone, good sound on bass drum, yet to try it on a bass guitar, seems well built.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersThis is a very good condenser microphone, we use just one of it for overhead in the church and you won’t believe the clarity and the amount of sound this mic can pick up, this mic is highly recommended. Of course is better to use two of them as overheads but we are satisfied with just one. We will get another one in the future. The clarity of this mic is absolutely amazing.

    good price for this product,
it would be much better if it include the protection box, instead of paper box.

Golden Review Award: 9 From Our UsersI love AKG microphones – about half of the 15 or so mics I own are AKG. I love them for the sound and build quality, and this mic is no exception; it sounds a lot better in terms of extended high and low end, and naturalness, than the SM57 that it’s often compared to. It is also more sensitive than the 57. But there’s an aspect of this mic that really drives me crazy: Take a look at this mic, especially the side views. Wouldn’t you want to use it with a 90 degree XLR connector, especially on a drumset, i.e. on a snare or tom? It’s a natural. Except whoever designed the mic case put the XLR in upside-down, so if you want to connect a female 90 degree XLR to this mic, connector and cable will stick up 180 degrees opposite the stand mount, instead of running parallel to the mount which would allow the cable to neatly follow the mic stand down toward the ground. I can’t believe AKG didn’t catch this. It’s a major pain when trying to get a tight low profile micing setup on a drum. Look at the attached picture to see what I mean.

Ok there are superior ( and far more expensive ) drum/amp microphones out there, but if your like me, gigging 2 or 3 times a month this is great. A fab piece of kit, which I bought to replace a Shure SM58 that was miking up my guitar amp. The Shure is a great Mike, but was far too bulky for this job.

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersAs a singer I’m a fan of the shure 58s. But I recently had an opportunity to use the C5. It was incredible. I ended up buying 6 of them for my band. I think I found my new normal for future use.

pics up sound close up but no good for recording away from the source, for me it makes the sound a bit more deeper in pitch, I will enjoy it for recording toms, guitar or bass but I want a condenser mic now for vocals.

Golden Review Award: 9 From Our UsersMicrophone is just as good as the promo stuff used to sell it. I have used these in the past and have other AKG mics for vocals and such. I trust this brand. I got this to mic my guitar amp and have to admit I do enjoy the extra detail in the tone that comes out of the PA vs the mic I was using and this mic can be used to mic about anything if need be. I chose this over the Sennheiser e 609 and the e 906 because I find the 609 that my band mate uses seems to color the sound a bit and with the AKG D40 you pretty much get what you hear on stage out of the PA without a lot of EQ’ing required. If I only had three words to use to describe the AKG D40 I would use Accurate, Responsive, and Trustworthy.

I bought four, for my rack toms & they sound GREAT. I have D12E’S on my kick drums & D112’S on my floors, so I know the quality & craftsmanship of the AKG brand. Very satisfied. Thank you… ;0)
