Amazon Basics 23-Inch (58 cm) Two-Door Top-Load Pet Kennel

Safe travels

Whether it’s an adorable Yorkie or a graceful tabby, conveniently get your furry friend from point A to point B with this Amazon Basics pet kennel. Designed to keep your pet safe, secure, and comfortable when travelling, the 23-inch (58 cm) kennel works well for anything from trips to the dog park or hiking trails to routine visits to the vet.

Smart 2-door design

Thoughtfully designed, the pet kennel features two doors, one in the front and one on the top, which means twice as many options compared to most kennels for getting little fluffy calmly into her kennel. Easy entry helps promote a less stressful experience – for both you and your pet.

Convenient features

For added convenience, the top door can be opened to the left or right. Simply pull one of the two black handles forward to release, then lift and swing to the side to open the door. The door on the front of the kennel features a spring-loaded latch. Pinching together the top and bottom levers of the latch and pulling forward allows the door to gently swing open.

Heavy-duty design

Made of durable plastic with a steel-wire front door, the Amazon Basics two-door top-load pet kennel offers strength, security, and visibility, along with plenty of ventilation on the sides, top, and back of the kennel.

Arrived quickly, very simple to put together, you can do most of it by hand, just need a screwdriver to tighten the bolts holding top to bottom. Looked a little small but is ample size for my biggest kitty who is very long. Easy to open front door and top loading door, and the holes in the sides and door are small so you won’t get an angry paw coming out to scratch you. Is also lightweight and sturdy even with a cat inside it.

It’s easy to assemble and love that it opens at the top too, my cat was very comfortable in it on her annual trip to the vet. Also didn’t take as much effort to persuade her to get in it! which is a godsend!

I didn’t look at the sizes properly, so had to send mine back as it was more suited to a rabbit or tiny kitten than an actual cat . Really well made all the same , just check the size firs

Excellent pet carrier for small animals. The instructions were easy to follow and assembly straight-forward. The two door feature and sturdiness were particularly advantageous for safely containing the more vigorous pet during their visit to the vet. Easy to clean.

Great size for a large bunny/cat, it’s the best carrier I’ve bought in a long time! (I’ve had a few over the years!) the opening at the top is very handy and makes it easier to get the more reluctant pets in and out without having to try and coax them out the front.

Took me ages to assemble it but once assembled, it’s a good size for my cat to spend some time inside. I wouldn’t use it just for a quick trip to the vet but I used it when I moved house.

Have to take my cat to the vet so decided to get this as its not too expensive.
    definitely worth the money.
My cat is kinda big so got the bigger one and there is sooo much space for him.
Also useful it has a top lid specially because its my cats first time and is easier to slot him through the top rather than get him through the door!

Have received this today and the quality is very good for the price. It is smallish….but I feel my cat will feel more secure in this as the old carrier was too big and the poor old boy was slipping all over the place. With it opening at the top as well, you can lower them in facing the door. Those top locks are quite secure too, also the door locks are too.

Secure and sturdy and easy to assemble!

Golden Review Award: 13 From Our UsersSturdy, secure, easy to assemble, lightweight to carry.

It’s my first time needing a carrier for my rabbits. It’s their first vet trip. I read a wonderfully helpfully review of this carrier, from somebody mentioning she liked the bolt feature (something I hadn’t considered to be a feature to look out for). She mentioned it adds extra security if the side clips fail or break. After reading reviews of other carriers, people mentioned the clips broke or the bottom fell off in transit and the animal fell out. So, it was a big reason I purchased this carrier, because the top and bottom can also be bolted with metal screws and not just rely on the plastic clips to hold them together. However, when assembling the carrier, the screw went in fine, but I struggled to attach the washer on the other end, it was fiddly, no helpful tool supplied to do it and I couldn’t tighten them fully with my fingers. In the end, I just used black cable ties instead of the screw bolts. Easier when dissembling for storage that way, just cut the ties instead of fiddling with a bunch of six screws.

I’m pleased it can open from the top via the handle, or from the front cage entrance. The gate felt thick, rather than thin wire. The clasp feature to lock it felt very secure. I feel the rabbits will be safe and secure and can’t escape, God-willing!

I bought the small 19″ size because it won’t be used often, or for long journeys (vets is 10min drive away). My rabbit is the size of a small-medium cat/dog. He is a fully grown Lop rabbit, 18mth old (not dwarf or mini). In my opinion, This carrier will be suitable for a medium sized adult rabbit, or a small-medium cat. I don’t think it’s suitable for an animal of this size for a long journey over 30-45min long, as there isn’t too much space for stretching/sprawling out, or standing on hind legs. If the animal is returning from vet treatment and needing to lay/rest with minimal movement, then it’s ideal. It will also be fine for short journeys, if the animal has had exercise time prior to entering the carrier, they’ll likely stay still and sleep. For a long, lengthy journey, or for a larger cat/dog/rabbit etc, I’d suggest buying the bigger size option.

Very happy with this purchase. The price was very good compared to some options that didn’t appear to be as good. My only regret is not buying the larger size, just incase I ever want to do a long journey with them (I should of thought that through better!) at least it will be easy for storage and also, the bottom section of the carrier can be used as a spare litter tray when not used for the carrier feature (yes, for those who don’t own rabbits, they can be litter trained like cats).

Pretty good carrier. I expected “Amazon Basics” to mean adequate but not great, but in fact it is great. Sturdy, upper and lower attached by swing clips but nuts and bolts are provided if you’re paranoid about premature carrier separation. Front door and top door for convenience. Recommended.

Perfect crate for small animals, particularly if they’re houdinis as the top opening is perfect for them to be put into.
Smaller than I expected and only really suitable for small cats/kittens. Our 3kg cat is slightly too big for it.

My crate didn’t come with screws to secure the two halfs together, which although is perfectly sturdy without, screws would of made it feel safer.

Really nice basket, and robust construction. Clips and bolts hold it all together, so very secure. If you intend using it as a cat “nest” at home, it’ll be easier if you don’t fit the door OR bolt it together. The clips are more than enough to hold it together securely at home.
Removable roof is easy to operate and a major boon.

I had looked at several travel boxes for my cats non really appealed to me until i found this one. It is perfect, very sturdy, and very well made, it has a very good front opening door also a top loading door. I love the top loading door, it is so easy to use and i find is far less stressful for my cats being gently lowered into the travel box rather than going in head first from the front.
Definately No drama, no fuss, no stress. My two cats travel very well together in the box, with plenty of room and ventilation. I highly recommend this travel box extremely good value for money.

4/5 because while the main bulk of it is sturdy and moderately easy to assemble, the handle and top loading bit seems more flimsy than it should. I don’t think its going to break, just not as heavy duty as I would have designed it (for reference my cat is 5kg).
However for the price its good, not something you use every week I think.

Bought this to transport a medium sized rabbit and it is perfect. It is slightly heavier one end due to the metal door. All in all we are very pleased with it.

I haven’t used it yet for my cat, but it looks good and it is useful to be able to open it either on top or at one end. The fastenings seem secure. The one drawback is that the instructions for putting it together are pretty incomprehensible. It looks as if the top goes on first, but in fact the door has to fitted before you put on the top.

I’m still a bit confused as to why there are snap hinges on the sides where top and bottom join, because there are also screws to join the top and bottom, rendering the snap hinges useless. Maybe you don’t have to use the screws, but I did because I blindly followed the instructions.
Still, easy enough to use the door and the hole on the top.

Pleased with all aspects of the cat box. Went for the 23″ based on the reviews for the smaller 19″ box suggesting it was too small (how big are peoples cats?!) however I think the 19″ would have been fine for our use (trips to vets etc) as the 23″ is v.spacious – good if long term user but on the big side for infrequent use.

Purchased this for our new kitten and ordered the large size so that it would grow into it without buying another when it gets older. Brilliant and does the job and also comes with the screws/bolts so that it can be made even more sturdier. I wouldn’t personally use it for anything bigger than a large cat but very happy.

Golden Review Award: 5 From Our UsersI had purchased this carrier to have on standby for if one of my cats ever required a trip to the vet. Call me mystic meg, cause no less than a week later I had to call it into action.

The most important aspect of any carrier I use, is how secure it feels. This carrier is assembled using clasps on the side and then secured by bolts. Although this is quite fiddly, I didn’t mind as it certainly added to the security and sturdiness.

I have a quite petite cat yet found the front door entrance a little small. Of course this can be quite subjective as I had one of the those cats that detests being placed in a carrier and can therefore magically increase in mass threefold at the sight of one. I therefore opted for the top loading door. Unfortunately, this didn’t work out as planned, as it’s not very easy to close and once the cat was placed inside she promptly jail broke out before I could close the awkward plastic bolts that it has. The only option I had was to place the carrier in an upright position and place her in the front door backwards. Once inside though, I felt she was safe and secure. Which again, to me is paramount.

This is a great, versatile product. I use it for guinea pigs. The wire end means you can attach a water bottle and look in if you need to without opening the door or top. The top opening works great and is best for getting guinea pigs in and out. The whole thing feels safe and sturdy. It is well-designed with a high base and air holes higher up. It doesn’t have a specific clip for seatbelts but it sits comfortably on the front seat with the belt around it, or on the floor somewhere else in the car.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersBought smaller size for 4 month old kittens. Only suitable for one for transportation purposes really but they’ll happily squeeze in together at home and seem to be using it as a bed regularly! I don’t think this would do for a full grown cat unless they like crouching in small spaces. Didn’t have the problem with the lid coming off like some people did. Feels sturdy to me. Golden Review Award: 16 From Our UsersArrived extremely quickly & well packed. Easy to construct & very sturdy. Purchased for my 3 month old Frenchie as the crate we purchased for her seemed way to big for her. After watching puppy training videos it suggested puppy’s prefer a more snug den like space to sleep so we thought we would give this a go. As soon as we put this out our puppy went straight in & much prefers this to her crate. In fact she generally takes herself off to bed. We were getting up to her during the night to take her out to potty, however since getting this she doesn’t want to get out of bed during the night so we now all get a good nights sleep aswell.

I used this carrier for my 3kg cat and shes roughtly 6cn long (excluding the tail). She fit in it well with a little bit of extra room for her to wiggle inunder blankets. Its sturdy for quick transportation but couldent hold much more than that weight for the handle.

Easy to unhinge at the vets and a good cheap extra cat carrier.

Top loading for ease of ambushing the cat when it’s vet day.
Plenty of room for my average sized 4kg calico in the 23cm size, but she likely would’ve fit in the 19cm one, especially if just for the short trip to the vet.
Easy to open the front and top, easy to assemble. I would suggest using the loops on each end to strap/make more sturdy if you have a heavy cat. The handle is on the top opening bit and it did bow a teensy when picking her up. If I was nervous about it (I’m not), a short bunjee would likely be enough but a webbing strap would be 100% secure.
All in all, perfectly suitable for what I wanted, for a decent price.

This is a great pet carrier with a sturdy metal door and plenty of room for my large ragdoll cat. (I bought the 23 inch carrier) There is an option to open from the top, but I prefer the front door, as it has the pinch open mechanism, and is easy to use. I found it easy to assemble, and sturdy enough, that, even with my cat wriggling around in there, I have no worries that it will come apart, or that the handle would fall. I am confident that my pet is safe and secure. If I needed another pet carrier, I would buy this one again.

This carrier does its job as intended and the top hatch is very useful. We got the 19 inch size for our small cat. She is 3.85 kg and looks like a kitten. She can’t stand up fully in it. Our vet said it was ok for short distances but if I was buying again I would get the larger size. The small one should really just be for kittens or small puppies.

Good basic cat carrier, large enough for two small cats, however I have a large breed cat so needed a second carrier. Very easy to put together, and sturdy construction with 6 screws to hold both top and bottom together. Not especially light, however comparable to others of similar size. Front door is secure with little chance of cat escaping, easy to open with one hand. This carrier has the advantage of a top opening which can be opened either side or removed completely. One disadvantage is that there is no where to secure a seatbelt to travel safely in a car hence only 4*.

I think I have been over-the-top in the size I’ve chosen for this but I needed the top hatch to be large enough to get him in without him being able to put his feet on the sides of the hatch to stop himself being put in there. It would easily fit a cat in!

Only downside for me is that too and bottom sections are permanently fastened together with screws.
My last carrier had clips so you could easily remove the top on those occasions when my feline friend decides he’s not coming out. The top opener of the carrier overcomes this somewhat, but that’s why it’s a 4 star from me, just a personal preference after using it a couple of times.

Took about 5mins to assemble this case. The door is very simple to operate. Only issue is that it doesn’t feel that strong, when my Maine coons grow I may get a sturdier carrier. Still very good value for money though.

For such a cheap item, its surprisingly good. My last carrier was seriously flawed I that you picked it up by the handle, and the door fell out. This one is so much better with the addition of the top entry for cats who know what’s happening when they see a carrier!
If it lasts a few years then good, and I can’t se why it shouldn’t. The large one is just about big enough for my 5kg cat (he’s a big lad) so that’s good too.
Buy it, I don’t think you will be disappointed.

Love this product perfect for cats and small dogs. I chose bigger size so there was nice amount of room for my cat too feel comfortable in. Very handy too have the door flap thing on top too makes it so much easier too take out you pet very clever design. even tough there is a chance that the door may open with the rods having a chance too move out of place. From what I have read from the other reviews. When I have used it I found the rods stayed in place. Very happy with the pet carrier. Always wanted a nice big pet carrier.

This product was relatively exact to assembly, it came with all the parts I needed and instructions. I love that it has 2 ways to open it as my cat can refuse to go in sometimes so I just take the top off and put her in.

Brilliant carrier. The top opening makes life so much easier and the bigger size box allows me to fit a clutch of kittens in with a generous amount of space. I haven’t experienced any problem with the carrier coming open as some reviewers have flagged up but I can see the sense in attaching a safety strap…there are two loop holes provided that make this an easy option. I now own two of these carriers , I like them and so do my cats.

For the money this is excellent compared to the ones on sale in Pets at Home. It’s a perfect size and versatile given the door can be set to open either way, the same with the roof opening or removed altogether. The beat pet we liked was the fact it is literally bolted together for added sturdiness and safety. This does mean taking the top half of the carrier is a faff, but how often do you do that??

The only thing that has let this down is the handle. It feels quite thin and is only held in place by plastic which if brake down will come carrier!! I’m sure if that did happen I could easily fashion a more sturdy hinge mechanism so not the end of the world.

    Overall, an excellent carrier.

Even though I needed to send it back I would like to give a review to this amazing product. The quality is very good not difficult to ensemble, I lived the idea that opens from up. The point is that was a bit small (height) not wide or area and the next model is to big for the chihuahua we have, so that was the reason I needed to send it back. Out of this, it is a very good product with a very good quality.

We needed a cat carrier pronto and this was our solution. All in all, I’d have to say that I am very pleased with the item. It is robust and the material does not flex under weight. The assembly was simple enough and it isn’t to the detriment of the products function.

The features are excellent. There is a main top hatch which you can use to drop your pen into the box or you can use the main cage door. The door locking mechanism seems a little over the top with the mechanism being housed in a large black box on the cage door. I’m sure there must be a less complicated and yet as effective solution but there we are, it still works great.

Seems sturdy and well built. I’ve got two of the smaller size for my small cats and it’s just about big enough, if you have a large cat or a dog I’d recommend the larger size. The top-opening is a useful feature but the hatch is quite hard to shut properly especially with an unhappy cat inside!

Nice big crate. I like that it has a top opener. The only thing that worries me is how long the lid will last. The lid opens, so you carry the weight on two rods rather than the whole carrier. My cat is a large tomcat, and I would hate for the lid to snap open while I’m transporting him to the vet. So far it seems sturdy enough though.

The carrier seems to be made of tough plastic and quite secure. You can use bolts as an extra measure of making sure the lid won’t fall off if you drop the carrier. However, I would say that the 19inch carrier seems a bit small. My cat is only 3.3 kg and with a smaller blanket in it, the space is very confined. I also wish the main opening were a bit bigger. I have not yet tried to carry it with the cat in it so can’t say anything about the top flap.

This is a great travel basket for a small dog as long as you aren’t carrying it too far. Great for taking your dog to the car, keeping it secure while travelling, and then carrying at the other end to the vet or another house.

I wouldn’t want to carry it on a long train journey for example, because the handle doesn’t look too secure, but for transporting a dog by car it’s perfect. The top-loading option is particularly good, for checking on the dog during the journey and putting nervous dogs in.

Fine and does what it says on the tin. When it it arrives you’ll have to build it. I found one bolt was a very tight fit and ended up having to hammer it through. To be honest I could have just left it out. Its strong enough with the other bolts and various clips that hold it all together.

I’ve used it a couple of times and it seems very effective.
The top opens as well as the front, so you have 2 alternatives for getting your pet into it.

Our cat loved this, as soon as it arrived she was torn between the cat box and the large amazon box it came in.

Managed to coax her in and immediately took her for a vet appointment (the whole point of getting the thing) Now she’s not so keen on it, however the handy top lid is essential when it comes to thrusting a 4Kg ball of teeth and claws inside the thing. Far easier than battling with the door.

Both me and the wife have suffered far less injuries getting our charming cat into this, compared to the smaller “front loader” we had before. Top loading is essential!

This is a really good quality carrier, and the top loading option is great (take care though, I really injured a finger with spring loaded closure). If you’re buying for a cat though, this is far too small. It’s ok for a kitten, but not sufficient for an adult cat. By the time I’d realised my mistake it was too late, and I needed to use it. I think I’ll be donating it to the animal shelter my kittens came from once they’re beyond about 8 months! I wish I’d spent the extra on the larger size.

Really strong design with screws and not clicks to hold it together, I feel that gives me more peace of mind when my kittens were being carried in it to the vets. I found two small kittens were ok but really only one size cat fits ok in it, very secure door needing you to push together two bits to open the door so no accidents can accurately in the door being opened by mistake, would have liked it to be bigger so I could get two cats in, but that was my mistake for not reading the size correct, but will still use for when I need to only take one cat at a time to the vets as I like the security and strength of this over the other basket I brough

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersI was looking for a carrier with more space inside, but also not too exposed as my cat prefers to be hidden so this one is perfect. I also wanted a secure door, and both the top and front openings are held shut by metal bars. You can open the top either side, or remove it completely. Clips hold the top and bottom of the carrier together securely, but if you’re worried there are 6 screws to use as well. There’s an added extra feature of shoulder strap buckles either end of the carrier to help carry it! Love it!

    Great carrier.

I’ll be using it for my miserable 5kg hairy ginger tom. He’s a big long furry thing that takes up a lot of space, and his old carrier wasn’t doing the job.

You could easily fit one and a half of him in here so there’s plenty of room.

The opening at the top is good and once screwed together it all feels very secure.

    Would recommend.

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersThis pet carrier has been an absolute godsend! I have two very nervous rabbits who hate being picked up, and will bolt at the sight of their old top-loading carrier. This carrier has allowed me to load them calmly without stress – they enjoy running in and out of it from the side and do not seem to be nervous of it at all. It is great quality, although took a little bit of time to line up. My husband with patience managed to get it all loaded and the screws in place, making it sturdy and robust. Compared to the three previous carriers I’ve had, this is by far the best quality, and what’s more, it’s really good value.

The best feature I find is the fact you can use both the top and the side to load/unload and access the pets. This is ideal for two fidgety and nervous bunnies. I am able to easily coax them in all by themselves from the side, no quibbles, no bites, and no darting rabbits, and when I’m at the vets, they were easily accessible from the top so that we could take them out for their checkup without the other one making a run for it. We could also access them for their jabs without the need to get them out!

The material feels strong, and if looked after (i.e. not left outside), I reckon it will withstand a lot. I notice some people say the bottom fell out/top fell when they were carrying. I have not had any issues, and have found it to be vastly better than my previous options. Of course, if I were to carry it far, I would probably put a luggage belt around it to add to its security, but to be honest, if you keep within the weight limit, I don’t see how it could be a problem. Just make sure to use the screws/nuts included and ensure it is securely fastened.

Golden Review Award: 5 From Our Usershuge, maybe too huge, you can get two cats in there easy, I like the front gate mechanism its very easy to use and looks quite tough, but I think the top flap causes a structural weakness, the top flaps bolts carry the whole whole weight of the box and the cat, and I can see its causing the bolt to bend, I don’t think the product will last if you use the handle, so I rigged a strap though the strap hooks

For the price, this is a very good basket. It’s easy to construct. Sturdy.
My only cautionary note is to be mindful of the size. It sits at the smaller end of baskets. So would be great for a kitten or juvenile cat. But too small for an adult. My mistake was ordering it for collecting an adult cat for adoption from the RSPCA … and it was too small. Ooops !

Easy to assemble, comes with base and top separate and door separate. Comes with extra screws if you feel the four side clasps aren’t enough. Bought the larger one for my two guineapigs, I would say would fit a miniature dog or small cat travelling to the vets or short journeys only as is quite small for cats and dogs really. Guineapigs went straight in it and seem comfortable and happy and it provides enough room too for them to move about. Seems sturdy enough and light enough to carry with small pets i

Easy to assemble and love that we have the option to secure it with the clips, nuts & bolts, or both. We use the bottom half of it as their bed with a blanket to make it cosy. Both kittens snuggle in there very happily but will each need one when fully grown. The front door and top hatch open very easily. Pleased we bought the big size as, although it does look very big, I think it will be perfect for a fully grown cat.

Fantastic. Used carrier for first time today. Easy to put together. Very sturdy, which gave me the feeling my cat was safe. The top is clipped and screwed so no fretting about clips giving way and bottom separating from top. The front “door” is a lot more secure than ones I’ve had before, with just the knobs thst turn. The door cannot come off!! No escape route from there either. The top hatch made it very easy to lift my cat out today, instead of having to pull her out by the front door. Less stress on my cat and very happy human. Will be buying another one very soon. Great value for money.

Good quality product. You have to put the 2 halves together yourself but OK if you’re hand at DIY. With our cat we load it in the front but take it out the top. Works best that way otherwise if you try and load at the top our cat splays its legs out and makes it difficult. Our vet said he hadnt seen one like that before but was impressed. Make sure the door and top locking mechanism is in place though when carrying a cat.

One of the levers on the roof doesn’t lie flat as it’s supposed to so I’m sending it back. I’ve re-ordered it as other than that it is a good solid roomy carrier, at a good price. I’ve taken the precaution of ordering a luggage strap to go round the new one, just for extra piece of mind. The problem is that the handle is in the removable lid and it feels a little insecure, although hopefully it would hold ok. I recommend the carrier but also that you secure it with a strap. The front opening door seems very secure.

Edit: Have received the replacement and am pleased to say the roof on this one fits perfectly, so very happy.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersReally excellent product for the small amount you pay. Forget the bad reviews. I’m overwhelmed that I could get something so good for such a low price. Mostly came fitted together but the bolts are there if you want to be absolutely sure. I don’t think I’ll need them. My cat goes in easily, and my chunky Chihuahua does too (not at the same time, you understand!). If you need a light carrier, don’t waste time looking, just buy this one. Sounds as though I’m paid by Amazon for writing this review, but I’m not.

Just arrived 30 minutes ago and I’ve built it and trialed it with the guinea pigs. Easy to build but the only draw back is that the roof section comes apart with a bit too much “oomph” as it’s spring loaded. I imagine it’d scare any animals that were inside at the time so i’ll probably just use the front door. However, it seems sturdy enough and very roomy for my two piggies.
The front door is designed well and the screws to keep the parts together are a nice touch.
    Worth the money.

Golden Review Award: 12 From Our UsersI love this carrier and so does my cat.
I had previously ordered the smaller one (19 inch) which didn’t work for my cat, but this one is perfect. It was so easy to get the cat in and she loves sleeping in it too. As my cat is not keen on being put in a carrier, the top opening is absolutely brilliant and big enough to get her inside without any problems.
Many carriers only have clip-ons to keep them in one piece whereas this one also has a few bolts which could be inserted for additional security. The door is also very secure and pretty big which helps.
To sum it up, this is the best carrier I have ever had or even seen. It will keep your cat save and it is great value for money. I would happily recommend just make sure you will get the right size for your pet.

Golden Review Award: 74 From Our UsersIn principle I do like this AmazonBasics 19″ pet carrier. The price is certainly right and the build quality is very good, with one caveat (below). I do have two points to add to the reviews of others from my personal perspective:

    1) My cat is an old man now (16) and has always been tiny (3.4kg) and with a bit of bedding in the base of the carrier it really seems like a bit of prison to me. The vets’ practice is literally a few minutes away, but I’d hesitate to take him even that far in this carrier as it’s really tight inside, even for a small cat. I’ve placed it on the floor and the lid off with some bedding inside to see how he’d fair with it. He can lie on his chest lengthwise with no problem, and indeed he has slept in a ball, which suggest a possible “turning circle” within, but the dimensions are tight. I’d say that the 19″ is fine for kittens and adolescent cats, but nothing larger.

    2) Others have expressed concerns on here and the Amazon USA site regarding the unusual locking mechanism employed in the top-loading lid. It probably would be fine, but if the unexpected were to happen and say the carrier was dropped, I’d argue that there is a *small* possibility of one or both of the “locking rods” slipping from the groove they are in. It really is a shame that Amazon didn’t opt for a more secure method. I realise that nothing is guaranteed when transporting your pet, but I’d only use this style of carrier with a strap running around the centre under the handle to ensure that that lid can’t come off.

I’ve not opted for the larger 23″ model, because of the lid. Instead I settled on the Petmate 2 Door Top Load Carrier, 24-Inch (purchased from Amazon). It’s a massive carrier, overly big for my cat, but I feel *much* happier with the top load hatch.

Fantastic bit of kit! Bought this for bringing pup home at 8 weeks and to take him to the vets for his injections. However pup loved it and would just put himself in to bed throughout the day. Still using this in the car every day to transport him to and from walks. Keeps the car clean, robust to take his weight still and he’s now 4.5kg. Best thing I purchased. Breeder said it was the best carrier he had seen, solid build and door and catch great.

I have recently acquired a second cat and needed a second carrier. I looked at many in store and online. None were as good as my 4 year old model of well known brand which has been changed and is poor quality. This fitted my needs. Better than what is currently on sale in store and in Argos etc. It’s a top loader which is much easier to get cats in. Comes apart for storage if u prefer. And additional screws makes it more sturdy. And price really good too. SentCat didn’t like it any better tho!
