Best shaver I've owned
After nearly 35 years of loyalty to Braun, after my current Series 5 packed up for the second time (it was fixed under warranty first time) I decided to change and picked this one. It shaves closer, quicker and has a longer lasting battery than anything else I’ve used. I know that they all perform better straight out of the box with new cutters and foils, but this doesn’t seem have the dramatic fall off in performance in the following weeks I’ve had with more recent Brauns. It seems as though foil and cutter changes may be a bit more expensive and fiddly when the time comes, but that’s for later. I really like this shaver.
Very close shave achieved, from the outse
For me, the most important aspect of any shaver has to be the closeness of the shave. This product achieves this admirably, and right from the first time of use. My skin didn’t appear to need to get used to this foil shaver, in spite of using a rotary one for years prior to this. It’s a significant improvement to the top-of-the-range one I’ve just stopped using.
Quite frankly, the closeness of the shave has far exceeded my expectations. It’s every bit as close to the wet shaving experience I remember from 20 years ago.
100% recommended!
Great deal! I am satisfied!
Heard some skeptical opinion. One of most important things is shaving speed. For me it takes 4 min instead of 8-10min with 3series BRAUN every morning. Logic reason ir more blades and hgest motor spead. Shaving is closest. Automatic washing take long time, but for me it isn’t important. Panasonic instead of old Braun next morning is dry and ready for use. Trimmer is sharp. I use my Braun seres 3 more than 10 years it still working only batteries is weak. I hope this will last just as long.
Brilliant!!
I have always used rotary shavers before as they seemed to be better than the foils I have tried. This shaver is different. It gives a much closer shave than anything I have tried previously. I think I probably won’t ever use a rotary again and will now stick to this type of shaver.
Great shave
Great shaver after lots of research went for this and very pleased. Had Philips previously which often missed hairs but this one is great doesn’t seem to miss any. Charger is also very good feels a quality shaver worth more money
Very surprised
I just purchased this Razor, The Panasonic LV 65 and some Blu Stratos pre elec shave . I haven’t shaved with an Electric razor for more than 20 years and only briefly then.
I didn’t use the prep on my first shave yesterday and was very surprised how good this Razor is, I had a 3 day growth and it just mowed through it in about 3 mins. It was as close if not better than my Gillette Fusion which I wasn’t expecting.
My Feather Artist Club straight razor and my Merkur Progress get slightly closer but it takes about half an hour of prep and can leave a bit of a rash if trying to get as smooth as possible, I’ll take a 3 min shave any time especially when it beats the Fusion for me. I’m going to use the prep lotion tomorrow but I couldn’t recommend this Razor anymore and won’t be wet shaving again brilliant razor.
Best Razor I've Ever Had
My wife bought me this for Christmas as my 8 year old one was getting a bit tired and couldn’t see buying new blades but there was no option for me it had to be another Panasonic as my previous one was so good and it’s lived up to my high expectations. Really smoothe shave every time and the trimmer is really good to for eyebrows and side bits. Can’t see me ever buying another brand/type, Why would I?
Japanese Masterpiece in Shaving
I have very sensitive aftershave skin and I have spent lots of time in choosing the right shaver! I have tried Braun, Phillips and other brands. I shave raw dry and this machine does it very well. Blades are strong and can hold for more than a year depending on your shaving schedule. It is best designed for everyday and closer to skin shaves and Panasonic 5-Blade shaver beats all of others here with extreme advantage. Previously I bought LV-50 which I really love for it’s modern design and it has served me many years without any problems with same battery life to present day and zero skin irritations. I still own it as my trusty travel companion. I love this Panasonic shaver, this model LV67 is the very upgrade of our time and when you need this kind of product when the price is right it’s definitely worth it. I always wanted the LV9Q which is even more beautiful and has also a charging and cleaning station, but unfortunately price is too high for it and I cannot afford it. On Japanese market you can get very exclusive colours, red is my favourite.
So long story short, it’s cool, it’s reliable, easy operating, the blades are very easy to change such as the blade foil. This item definitely becomes very personal with time.
Just to make sure that this item comes with EU PLUG!!! which is fine by me, but if you live in UK, buy a 1 adapter or make sure to order one that has UK PLUG embedded.
A bargain at the price, well recommended !!!!!
On unboxing it’s a nicely made smart looking shaver, the head articulates to the contours of the face and this I think aids to the overall comfort of usage. Charge time is very fast, quicker than the 1 hour stated, switching on there’s a loud shrill hum which is a bit disconcerting initially but I suppose confirms the power of the motor, and I don’t think it could be considered a drawback, the shave results are what matters here and are very good even on unprepared dry skin. I have soft sensitive skin even after decades of shaving and was surprised how little irritation I was left with after my first dry shave, even on a cut through days old long stubble. I would always use a wet shave through very long /beard like growth and have never shaved daily if i didn’t have to, but I think because of the speed and the large curved cutting head, a smarter close shave look could be easily maintained if wished. A great buy at the price, well recommended !!!!!
An unbelievably great shave ever time.
Having used a good variety of shavers over my lifetime ( now 61yrs) only a blade has come as close as this superb shaver. With the option of wet or dry shave, manual clean or the use of a simple to use auto clean/ charging unit and a battery that way outlasts the description, this shaver is ( in my opinion) nothing less than the BEST money can buy.
Panasonic ES-LV65
So far this razor has been very efficient at shaving. I use it dry but it’s good that it’s waterproof for cleaning as well as using of course. It only takes an hour to charge and that gives sufficient power for several shaves. The five cutting heads makes it very much better than the Braun razor that I had been using, which has two plus a middle cutter. The only reason I have given four stars for the ergonomics, is that the head is quite large but then it has to be for the five cutting blades.
The best electric shave eve
So very close to the quality and closeness of a wet shave but achieved in seconds and without mess. The Panasonic ES-LV97 Wet and Dry Rechargeable Electric 5-Blade Shaver has been a revelation and well worth the expense.
how good it shaves!
his is the beat shaver i have ever used/ it is close to my skin — is it perfect, no – a wet shaver with blades would be closer, but an electrical? this is the best i ever used. Excellent i recommenced this to anyone who wants to use an shaver with out going all manual
Note: the foil is easy to damage and expensive to replace. Be carful about it!
I'm a CONVERT
I’ve used safety razors all my life but this shaver gives the closest shave, each time, akin to a brand new razor. I’m never going back to a safety razor.
My first electric shaver. The build quality is very good and battery life lasts me 5 shaves or so. It is very easy to clean. The shave is good but if you have been using blades all your life like I did, it takes time to get used to and at times it isn’t able to get to all their hairs, so you need to use the trimmer. Overall I am satisfied with the purchase. If you want to try an electric shaver, this can be a great option but be warned that it is a matter of preference, and you may still prefer using the blade.
Really close shave, good battery life
Was on the fence about buying this or paying more money for the Braun. While I haven’t tried the Braun, I am really happy with this product. It offers a shave comparable to a wet shave (although a wet shave is more comfortable to be honest). While you lose the comfort, you do gain the ability to shave whenever and not have to use foam. I did nick myself the first few times though, realised I was applying too much pressure. I let the pressure off and it was a really nice shave!
It meets my needs. That's impressive.
It’s a very good electric razor. It needs to be, for me. I’ve tough facial hair and ultrathin skin. It makes anything a challenge. This razor is holding up well.
First Class Razo
I’ve had a Panasonic razor for nearly 5 years giving me trouble free shaving till recently when the battery life between charges was now only a couple of days.
It was then I purchased this one and have to say it does everything it said on the advertising and test reports. lightweight to handle and gives an excellent close shave and well over a week between battery charges.
Good quality shave
A big improvement over my lower end Braun shaver, I don’t have clean station but very easy to clean by rinsing under tap. Close shave but still some areas take a few passes over, but nowhere near as much effort as previous old shaver. Battery life good, charged twice since owning it 3 weeks.
Excellent razo
Best shaver that I’ve owned. Used to buy Remington foil ones but this Panasonic beats them all. I wanted a razor with a high cutting speed and this one is excellent. Not tried the cleaning accessories as yet. Maybe could have saved some cost by buying one without them.
Really impressive shave and time saving
Had a Panasonic shaver along time ago and had forgotten how good they were. Have been using Braun shavers probably for the last 6 years or so. This Panasonic shavers performance is really impressive. Even when I have not shaved for 2 or 3 days days, it takes less than 5 minutes for a really smooth shave.
Very good shave
I have had Philips rotary units for 40+ years, the last unit a 9111, has only lasted 3.5 years which has a design fault with the head retaining method, and only because I’ve dithered over a new unit that I’ve kept it that long.
The Panasonic has been a revelation, a closer cut and smoother movement over the skin coupled with a quicker shave. The unit is comfortable in the hand to use and reasonably light, durability cannot yet be determined but appears to be of better construction quality than the Philips. in addition to the above it is also substantially cheaper than the current 9000 series Philips.
Superb
Fast charge and holds its charge well. Easy to use and the blades cut my tough beard with ease. Easy to clean and the shaver comes with a soft case to keep it safe. The trimmer is really useful and stays in place when in use.
All in all a really well designed and well made shaver.
A quick smooth shave
I was surprised how quickly I got used to it after having used rotary shavers before.
It gives a quick smooth shave and is very nicely built.
The cleaning unit is easy to use but I worry about the replacement cost of the cleaning fluid sachets and of replacement foils.
Nice shaver...
I have always had rotary shavers – this seems very good once you have adapted to the new shaving style. Very close shave mostly – to be seen how long that lasts. Sometimes has a problem with longer hairs so I guess good for those who shave every day or so.
Replaced Braun 6000 series, that packed up.
Definelty a closer shave than the Braun. Cleans in its holder much the same way, but only fluid required and not cartridges.
About as good as you can get with an electric shaver, however the small difficult areas will not get cut that close due to the size of the head. I find this close and quick for most areas, then use a small headed foil trimmer for the difficult areas.
Close shave and convenie
My boyfriend has always been terrible at shaving. Disposable 5 blades or double edge steel blade, he’d cut himself, get razor burns and be patchy. With this Panasonic electric razor he can get the closet dry shave. It’s not 100% foolproof though, the first time he ran over a bit too roughly and got a small red rash so best take it slow
Panasonic purchase perfec
Delighted with this shaver in the past I have purchased 2 – 3 blade shavers great but the 5 blade version is superior the main reason I bought Panasonic they are made in Japa
Best shaver I've ever had
Until 2 weeks ago I didn’t even know that Panasonic made shavers. When it arrived I had been without a shaver for a while and had about 4 days’ growth; it removed it effortlessly in a fraction of the time it would have taken any of my previous shavers. Used it for a week now and am delighted. Can’t think of anything to criticise about it . (By the way, several reviewers of other shaver models don’t seem to realise that a British “bathroom” 2-pin plug is NOT the same as a standard European 2-pin mains plug – although they may look similar, the pitch of the pins is different.)
Very close shave
The last electric shaver I used was a rotary Philips back in the early 90s. I’ve been using wet shave since then but it’s a time waster when you’re in a rush.
I bought this as it was a pretty good price, a big name (but not in shaving), and I wanted to save time shaving. I’m glad I did. It gives almost as good a shave as my old 5 blade wet razor, leaves no skin irritation, and is quiet.
Word of advice – don’t go for the one with a cleaning unit that’s more expenaive. The instructions that came with this one show you how to get the same result using hand wash
Excellent closest electric shave yet.
Excellent product . Having had a Braun series 7 and 3 before was blown away how close and quick a shave it gave . Having Ms and unable to shave without cutting myself I decided to try electric shaving again. With mixed reviews on the Panasonic I thought I’d give it a try excellent is a understatement . With 4 day’s growth it glided through unbelievable how close not as close as a wet shave but no cuts and the closest yet compared to previous electric shaves highly recommend.
Great Shave
I bought Panasonic EV -LV 67 shaver after doing lot of reviews. This is a great shaver with excellent close shave. No razor burn. I have only used with shave foam so far and very pleased. I was using Braun series 3 for past few years and this is much better in every way. So far very pleased.
Panasonic ES-LV97 Wet & Dry Electric 5-Blade Shave
Panasonic ES-LV97 Wet & Dry Electric 5-Blade Shaver with Cleaning & Charging Stand, UK 2 Pin Plug is really good I have the Braun 7 series and I thought that was good till I got this one. It shaves much fast having the 5 Blades and I knew the Braun was good but the Panasonic ES-LV97 Wet & Dry Electric 5-Blade Shaver is much better shave
Excellent device, its been a good few years since I’ve used an electric razor. To be honest, I wasn’t sure how smooth a shave I’d get compared to a wet shave. However I must say, “I’m impressed!”
Times and technology has moved on and the shave you get dry shaving is very good, a nice close shave, leaving my skin particularly smooth. Because it’s been a while since my last dry electric shave, I expected my neck to feel sore. It was a little, but that was to be expected. A good dollop of post shaving balm worked wonders.
Charge lasts a lot longer than expected, lasting a good 2 weeks, shaving once per day, less than 5 minutes each time. Cleaning is very easy with a simple clip on, clip off head, a quick rinse through, clip head back on and it’s good to go again. It can be cleaned through with the head in place if you wish.
Very good shave
It is my sixty shaver. I used before three Philips, One Braun and another Panasonic.
This is absolutely the best. Very good shaving quality close to razor performance.
Only negative point is the cleaning procedure. According to manual you should clean the machine in his cleaning stand with special solution. It takes nearly two hours…..
5 minutes in shaving and two hours cleaning?
Of course I am cleaning it one time a week. But manual says it must be every time after usage.
It is simply awesome!
I’ve switched over from Braun Series 7 and this one is superior!
The only thing to point out is that it performs best with regular shave (at least for me) as it struggles to cut the facial hair efficiently when you let it grow a little.
So just make sure you shave regularly and you will not be disappointed.
Well done Panasonic!
Sideburns trimmer gives closer shave than my last one by Braun but the latter was positioned a little better so you could give a more precise cut (shape) to your sideburns. But even with that i am very happy with this shaver and would definitely recommend it!
Smooth shave
This is the best razer I’ve ever used shaves you like a blade cant find fault on anything used to buy three headed ones not any more sorry had to through this razer in the bin it smelt awful couldn’t clean it no matter what I did the awful smell wouldn’t go away
The business
Out of the box the battery charged very quickly. I had let my beard grow for a few days before receipt and the shaver whipped it off with no effort leaving a smooth skin. A fine quality machine.
Closest shave ever!
Purchased this shaver at a very good price – just under 100. Must admit I wouldn’t have considered at the full price of around 240! Bought to replace a Braun Series 3 which I’ve never been happy with. So much so that I also have a cheap rotary shaver to shave the bits the Braun doesn’t get. This one with its 5 blades is a huge improvement. The floating head adjusts well to your contours or you can have it fixed to do some finishing off. It’s much quieter than the Braun too. Delighted with purchase so far!
For the price it’s a good shave
Bought in the black Friday deal so was a great price even though the price Amazon said I wasn’t really that accurate as I only really saved 30.00 from the today’s market price was, however the shaver gives a very good shave for its price, and charging wise was fast…..it’s a great razor for its price and see no benefits to paying the higher price for the next model up
Just what I expected from Panasonic
I have been using Panasonic shavers (the Japanese models) for years. I was in London recently and found out that I hadn’t brought my shaver; so decided to buy this “International” model. As it turned out, it is lighter and practical. There is no way for me to verify whether this model is more powerful than the Japanese one, but it seems to me more powerful. Perhaps a Panasonic representative can confirm this!
As good as a blade
Haven’t used an electric shaver in 20 years because of my thick stubble. Pleased to say things have massively improved in that time. This gives a really good, close shave – wet or dry. Good to hold. Highly recommend
Well made and super easy to use
Really happy with this shaver, well built and comes with the cleaning station to get you up and running.
The shaver offer a fairly close shave, not the same degree as my Feather double sided safety razor but the advantage is you can shave very quickly without going through The rigmarole of using my safety razor. It’s good enough for a day which is all I want.
Would have been nice to see some oil and a brush included as you don’t have to use the cleaning station but these can be purchased if desired and I do prefer a spot of oil after each clean as it helps to keep the blades nice even though the cleaning liquid offers this. The operating instructions do include manual cleaning if needed.
Travel case is nice, shame it’s not a hard case and the charging cable is not a common connection but it’s not really an issue.
The operating instructions are simple to follow, has a nice set of problem solving FAQ and explains the features.
In all a nice, well made shaver that offers a nice close shave with not hint on my face of any soreness.
Best shaver still not good as a razo
I think I shaved everything in my life. Blades, Gillette, Bic, Wilkinson, Philips, One Blade, Braun series 3.
Now I bought the best one from Panasonic. I must admit that this device is able to shave like a razor on my cheeks. The only problem is with the neck, and that is a problem for every shaver, whether it is Braun 9 or the best Philips. Don’t misunderstand me, this equipment is good and I use it regularly, but I always have to use the standard Gillette for small improvements.
Great battery life. Very easy to clean. Stylish.
Outstanding performance
I’ve always bought Braun shavers in the past believing they were the best but not being completely satisfied with them. Last one I bought was a Series 9 for over 300. The second replacement foil broke so I decided to make a change. I bought this Panasonic for 124 and what a change for the better it is. Besides being about a third of the price, this shaver is giving me a much closer and less irritating shave than I have ever had. It proves to me that the Germans are brilliant at their marketing for everything like cars and electronics but pretty rubbish at the actual product quality against other brands on the market.
Best shaver I've ever had
This shaver is the best that I’ve ever used and I’m very happy with it in every way. I bought it with the cleaner and the jury is out on that. I have only used it once and it works fine, but I think that mostly I’ll just use conventional manual cleaning.
Very good shave and battery life
It is a well constructed shaver but unfortunately the on/off switch is just where you would place your thumb when holding it, I keep switching it off accidentally. could do with a lock or moving the on/off switch so it can’t be accidentally switched off during the shave.
My old 3 foil Panasonic needed a new foil & cutter, but I decided to upgrade to the 5 blade ES-LV67 instead. I suspected the 5 blade was a bit of a marketing ploy but I thought I’d give it a go. I also decided to change my daily shaving routine so I did some research on the internet. Chose to do a daily exfoliation first with a pea sized dollop of L’Oreal daily exfoliant to remove any dead skin & oily residue thinking the raser would be easier to clean. Making sure to remove all the micro beads. I followed it up with a Speick 170 shaving cream, again just a pea size is ample, applied to wet skin with my fingers & gently massaged to a thin coating. No need to work into a thick lather with a brush as that would be unnecessary & counter productive. I had previously lubricated the shaver with Panasonic oil then set to it. WOW! the shaving experience was incredible, gliding over the skin, no friction at all as the Panasonic went about its business. I occasionally stopped to add a little water to prevent the cream from becoming too dry. After 2 or 3 minutes I was done. I can honestly say this was the best shave I’ve ever had, blade or electric! Unbelievable smooth finish. Cleaning the razor is a breeze, a little light application of liquid soap and then tap water onto the foil, hold the power button down for 3 seconds or so & the shaver goes into a self cleaning mode for about 30 seconds, after which remove the head, flush with water & leave to dry & Bob’s your Dad’s brother! Don’t forget to add a little oil which comes with the shaver. What else? Well it charges in less than an hour, feels like a quality product, is ergonomic, comes with a protective foil cover – are you listening Braun? Shame on you. A soft case, oil & brush. This is a top quality product for a daily shave. I can’t see how the shaver could be improved. I can’t vouch for how well it performs if you only shave every 2 or 3 days as I’ve never tried it. Delighted with the product & the routine.
ecommend
had top range braun Phillips remington but this beats them all in all areas – a real gem of a shaver and I use as a wet shaver with king of shaves oil
Superb shaver that really does shave as close as a blade.
There is nothing to dislike about this shaver. It gives a really close shave without the soreness that other shavers leave. Battery lasts for half a dozen shaves and recharge is rapid. It’s also easy to clean under the tap. Thanks to a Which recommendation, I have the shaver I need.
Great Shave
Best shave I’ve had from an electric razor. I would like a stand to be included, even if you don’t buy the full cleaning kit. A bit of moulded plastic surely wouldn’t cost that much. Still, it’s a minor issue for an otherwise brilliant bit of kit.
I’m not usually one to write reviews but I feel compelled to do so with this razor.
I’ve been using a Philips one blade for the past year after giving up on the typical Gillette wet shave that the majority of guys have (my skin is pretty sensitive), and have been cursing electric razors ever since. The reviews I read on the Philips said it was a close shave, but I always had a 5 o’clock shadow.
I tossed up between the Braun Series 9, and this, both being the same price at the time. I can’t comment on the quality of the Braun as I haven’t used it, but I chose the Panasonic because; reviews said it offered a closer shave and I liked the style of it better. I was a bit apprehensive over the size of the shave head, it looked pretty unwieldy to me compared to the Braun, but actually it turned out to not be a problem.
I had my first shave with it yesterday and what can I say except wow. Every one has different skin but for me, this is as close a shave as I was able to achieve with a gillette without the irritation. It was effortless as well, with just a few passes getting most of the hair. I have a few flat lying hairs around my Adam’s apple, and it managed to get those too, which were always a problem for me.
Of course if I need to look extra presentable, I will always get a closer shave with a safety razor, but with my skin it takes a lot of prep to make sure my skin isn’t really irritated after. For day to day, this offers a really close shave that is much better than I anticipated.
Best shaver we have ever had!
This shaver is fantastic! Me and my partner both have undercuts so like to keep them shaven without having to go to the barbers every few days! This takes of every single hair so quickly! Literally move it over your head once and it’s done! It’s insane! The only thing is don’t get to close to the edge with the 3rd blade as that will remove long hair. But I would recommend this 100% wish we bought it ages ago! We had a very cheap one and you would keep having to go over the same patch for it to remove the hair & it would take so long! But this takes 5 mins and you are sorted!
This is my first every review. I feel that I have to mention that this shaver is not the best. I have a normal beard with normal skin. I bought this Panasonic thinking it would be the best, hence the high price tag for the cutters and foils. I do have the Braun series 9 and the series 7. Having these and more to compare I must say that the Panasonic does not outshine the Braun or the Philip’s 9000 series. I am not impressed with the Panasonic and will be switching back to the Braun 7 series. It’s better on battery life and much cheaper on cleaning and foil replacement. You may find things different but for me the Panasonic is back in the box.
Closest shave is had
Closest shave I’ve ever had and I’ve used many shavers in the past designed for thick and unruly stubble and this has beaten them all. Nice and quick and close!
After a 6 minute shave, it had dropped by 40% which isn’t ideal.
This is off my first shave
Close comfortable shave but the cutter only lasts 6 months or so and replacements are expensive.
I’ve had a number of electric shavers and this one gives the best, most comfortable, closest shave. The cutter oscillates at a much higher frequency than other foil shavers, and I guess this is one of the reasons why it’s so good, but the downside is that the cutters do get blunt and they’re quite expensive to replace, and I’ve needed them roughly every six months. I don’t think it’s any worse than any other electric razor, but because the product is so good when they’re new, you tend to want to replace them when they become a bit dull.
Forget about BRAUN !!!
Having used Braun Series 3 for about 4 years I finally decided to buy something different and more expensive than my first electric shaver. After using it 3 or 4 times I am amazed with the results and sad I was slaughtering my face with Braun for so many years. I only regret that I haven’t bought it earlier. It’s more accurate and efficient, doesn’t pull my hair out, it is pleasure to be using it. Shaving takes less time with better results.
Not cheap, but I don’t regret spending the amount. It works for me 😀
Closer shave than a blade
I had my Phillips for years , but increasingly had to do wet shave as just was not working well. This new shaver is the best I have ever had. Cuts very close and also cuts longer hairs without needing a blade. Easy to clean, long battery life. Brilliant.
Now 3 months one and I remain totally impressed. Key is the easy cleaning, off with the head, wash under tap, and leave to dry. Easy, quick. By comparison the phillips never got cleaned daily. Best shaver ever had and such a close shave better than the top wet shave!
Excellent cordless shave
I upgraded from the older version (ES-RF41) and this new model is even better. The higher speed and bigger 5 blade head shaves closer and better. Very happy so far. Easy to clean under the tap, glad I did not go for the more expensive self-cleaning model.
Superb shaver.
My son road-tested this shaver for me, and he has not stopped talking about how brilliant it is. An almost-intuitive shaver that is self-cleaning – wow – you can’t ask for more than that. It gives a very close shave – he says it is pretty much as close as a regular hand shaver, and yet a full shave is really fast compared to other razors he has used. He actually used to prefer and hand shaver, but not any more. It is gentle on the skin, too, as long as you treat it with care and respect and it flows around your face with ease and comfort. And then you place it in the stand and it cleans itself – fully (skin, hair and sebum) – and charges up for next time. Perfect.
Best shaver of the many I have owned.
I have, over many years, owned most makes of electric shaver. This includes rotary head and ones like this Panasonic. This shaver is the most expensive I have owned but is by far the best. It feels solid and built to last. The charge and clean machine works well but takes a long time and is quite noisy. I only use it every 2-3 days for that reason.
I’m very pleased with this razor. I’ve been using it wet and gives a very close shave in double quick time, leaving a smooth skin with no soreness. It does a good job of removing the whiskers from the bottom sides of the nose which can be tricky with a safety razor. Cleaning by rinsing under the tap is a doddle. It needs recharging after about ten shaves so doesn’t last as long as my previous Remington; on the other hand it charges rapidly (and gives a far better result than the Remington). I got mine at a very good price from Amazon. However I note that replacement foils and cutters are not cheap. Anyway, well worth 5 stars and probably the market leader as we move into 2020.
Utterly brilliant shaver. I’ll never bother to wet shave again now I have this little wonder. I’m done in a couple of minutes just daily dry shaving. The end result is close enough for me. No rash, it’s so kind on the skin, just a little light moisturier post shave, every shave.
Keeping the shaver head and foils clean is a doddle with the included brush
Terrific
Fantastic shaver, really is. Top quality product from Panasonic. I upgraded from a Braun Series 5 which is the next price level down and this is a world apart. I have very sensitive skin and because this thing is good at what it does I have very minor redness at bottom of neck but otherwise nothing! Far better than with the Braun and 10x better than wet shaving with a manual. Fab shaver, super happy!
Samurai Sword Technology!
Any product being markets fir using the same technology as samurai swords does get my curiosity going! As with many bathroom and grooming pieces of kit you get provided with a standard two pin charging plug so you’ll need to have an adapter if, like me, you want to charge it in a U.K. three pin socket. Adapters are cheap and they are available on Amazon for just a pound or two. However, it’s a pain if you don’t have one handy when your shaver arrives.
To fully charger it takes around and hour and there’s an indicator light on there. There are lots of nice touches with this shaver like that which you don’t always get with cheaper shavers. There’s also a carry bag provided, helpful for storage, particularly when travelling.
I’ve been using it in the dry mode and the shave it gives is very impressive. I suffer from sensitive skin, especially under my chins, and as a result tend not to have a close shave very often. However, I was very pleased to find that this shaver didn’t aggravate my skin at all which is pleasantly surprising. The other thing is that the closeness of the shave is impressive too. It’s not the lightest of shavers but with relatively little effort you can get a stunning shave. It’s comfortable to hold and not too noisy.
It’s not the cheapest shaver out there but after a few days of use I’m impressive!
Panasonic the way forward in wet shaving
Just started using following the recent failure of my latest Braun. What a delight to use, despite the five blades it is so light and easy to hold. The shaving results I am now achieving are the best I have ever managed from an electric shaver. I have decided to use it as wet razor using foam, what a result and is highly recommended.
Great product.
I ordered this for my brother as he keeps a beard but likes to trim the sides and keep it neat. He’s really impressed with it and says it’s hands down the best electric razor he’s ever used. Apparently the tilting head gives a really close shave and he likes that it charges quickly for a quick trim if he forgets to put it on the charger when it’s getting low. It looks nice and it’s very comfortable to hold.
Impressive produc
Without doubt the best saver I have ever used.
It gives a very close and comfortable shave with the minimum of effort. It charges up very quickly and delivers a good number of uses before recharging is needed.
It is easy to clean which is a big plus.
It is solidly made yet easy to handle. The shaving foil is very responsive. Read the instructions carefully and remember to shave against the growth.
The price is reasonable for a product which is so efficient and takes a lot of the hassle out of an otherwise tedious task.
Highly recommended.
The best shaver I have ever used
This is by far the best shaver that I have ever used. The quality of this product is clearly noticeable starting from the packaging. The shaver itself is the perfect weight, not too heavy and not too light. The charge lasts for a long time, really impressed with the shaving quality.
Expensive but cannot have a cleaner shave than this ever.
Dry/wet any way you want towards the flow , against the flow. Very easy and a perfect clean shave even your barber wont be able to do this .
It has got a self cleaning system just store in the stand provided with the solution and it connects easily charges and cleaning system is superb with ultrasonic cleaning and drying it is programmed.. I definitely recommend this.
Only negative was I didnt got the UK Plug version .
Excelle
I swapped to this from a Braun, which was a similarly top of the range model, albeit a little long in the tooth now. I have no complaint with the Panasonic, a shaver brand I haven’t tried before. This gives a very close shave (5 blades!) and does so quickly, although the floating head did take a little getting used to and the claims about no skin irritations hold up, for me anyway.. There’s the standard clean and charge pod and charging is quick and if necessary a single shave charge is 3 minutes, ideal for those times the shaver conks out half way through, which is usually when you’re in a hurry!
All in all a very fine luxury shaver.
Fantastic shave at a Wow price!
My 80+ year old father in law previously upset Braun user gives his feedback and he’s at best difficult to please says after 1 initial use…it’s his best ever shave…well done Panasonic it took me hours to dissect X check reviews from Braun Philips Panasonic etc. I’m so glad I chose this make and model. Thanks Amazon great price!
Very close shave for an electric shave
First impressions with this wet & dry shaver are that it’s brilliant. It’s by no means cheap but in comparison to other electric shavers I have it is miles better. It’s certainly a much closer shave than I get with any of the others and far more comparable to a standard wet blade shave. Only 1 hour to fully charge and it’s ready to use. It comes with a small vial of oil for lubricating the shave head and also a charging cable (2 pin) and a cheap pouch (the only negative is the quality of the pouch). It really is a cracking little shaver and will find it’s way into my travel bag on all foreign trips from now on. Don’t be put off by the price. I think it’s worth the extra.
Excellent shave
First impressions are excellent…
The shaver comes well packaged and has a real quality little case for the shaver…the little cleaning brush is pretty well hidden in a tiny slot on the interior packaging…I very nearly threw it away!
The shaver itself feels really good in the hand and is certainly not very noisy at all…I have had my first dry shave with it this morning and I’m pretty well impressed especially considering it was just a quicky!
I shall have a wet shave with it tomorrow in the shower and see how that works out!
Best Eve
My daughter’s father-in- law has been testing this out.
He is clean shaven.
He thinks it is the best shaver ever of all the electric ones he has used.
We cannot say how it performs with beards – but judging from the use so far we would expect it to be good.
Best blade electric shaver I have used
I am not a fan of blade type electric razer’s.
However this is definitely the best one I have ever used, for instance the awkward to shave upper lip is totally smooth. Much better than I expected.
It comes with a cleaning system that they all seem to come with I assume for the Christmas gift market. I say that because we have done find without them these past 50 year’s. It works well however but I think it’s unnecessary.
Best shaver I've owned!
I’ve just changed from a Philishave to Panasonic. I’ve used this razor for about 10 days now. Really fantastic smooth, and quick, shave. A step change from other razors I’ve owned. It also felt very smooth as it cuts so, for me, it causes less skin irritation. (The version that shipped to me was black rather than the purple shown in the picture. I prefer the black although haven’t actually seen the purple one).
I’ve been Braun for many years. And I’ve also had top of the range Philips and Remington. Never tried a Panasonic before. My faithful for years has been a Braun Series 3. Even upgrading to a Braun a Series 5 didn’t work for me, I went back to a second Series 3. With foils due a replacement and battery holding up for only two shaves on my 3 year old Series 3, I did some research and decided on the Panasonic Arc 5. Was delivered yesterday, just had first shave. So I can’t talk about battery life or longevity. But OMG, it was the best shave of my life. I have thick growth and sensitive skin, especially around the corners of my mouth, and every direction of hair growth on my neck. The Arc 5 really dealt with it ALL in one or two passes, even in difficult neck and jaw line areas. I’d previously written a glowing review about the Braun Series 3, but even that needed several passes in difficult areas. The Arc 5 was very quick, very comfortable, and gave an incredibly smooth shave. I used it wet with some King Of Shaves gel. Only wish I’d changed years ago. Sorry Braun….you’re good, but nowhere near the Panasonic Arc 5! I’m converted. Will update after a few months….
Bought this razor based on lots of excellent reviews. The only criticism of it has been that it might not be suitable for sensitive skin. However, I can only say if you wet shave with it and use balm, it should be fine! First shave was on 3 days of stubble-dry shaved. At first I didn’t feel as If it was cutting, it was so smooth. But those 5 blades with a14,000 rpm cutting speed gives an amazing close shave-so close that it felt better than a conventional razor! Just over 3 minutes and not one hair left/visible! Skin did feel tingly though-BUT didn’t last long, not unpleasant, no redness and skin felt soft. It looks like a heavy razor but is actually light and comfortable to hold. As for cleaning, it’s easy-just use the sonic cleaning mode and water. A cleaning dock seems unnecessary. Finally including some lubricant is great, helping to keep the blades in good condition!
Because choosing a razor is a very individual experience-and we all have different skin types-this may not suit you, but you could say that for ANY razor! But if you want the closest shave possible, (and it glides over your skin like Torville and Dean on ice-effortlessly and smoothly!!)), I think this Razor wins hands down!
Couldn’t decide which to go for between the Braun Series 7 7855s & the Panasonic Arc 5 after doing my research as the Braun 7 (new) was selling for 86 on ebay and the Arc 5 on amazon for 119. Got the Panasonic Arc 5 and was shocked how close the shave was with foam , it was even better than the razor blade shave which i most often use. Its amazing how good this shaver is even when using under my chin and neck area, it was almost impossible to shave with my previous Braun series 3 under the neck/chin but this Arc 5 makes it possible.
Best electric shave I have had.
It really shaves smooth, its quick and easy to use and charge. its not that easy to clean (the heads are so complex) but for the best electric shave you will get you just cannot beat this.
Brillia
Easily the best ever shaver of all time on a par with wet shaving best ever, easy to clean, battery seams to last for a long time, been 9 days without charge, MAGIC!
Third time lucky?
This is my second one. I shave in the shower with none foaming shaving gel. I get a much better shaved than if I use a match 3 etc. My first shaver dead after 2.5 years. My new one seems to have a much better battery life. Tip, do not let it run completely flat as that is what I think ruined my old one.
Update. March 2021. The second one has just broken, as it is randomly switching on and off. Bought a 3rd for 90. Hopefully this one will last longer. The alternative was a Brain 9 at 200. Whilst I was tempted, twice the price is steep and but for the poor build quality and the environmental impact replacing it every two years has, I am happy with it. Hopefully third time lucky!
Great shaver!
Really good shaver, had it for a few months and managed to get closer shave when used with a shaving gel or foam than dry and have that smooth face!
Not much razor burn for a very close shave compared to a manual razor
So far so good!
Like many other reviewers I had used Philips for many years( I have their Arcitech model) but found recent blade head replacements very unsatisfactory, orange blade holders keet falling out during cleaning, did not cut as close as my original head etc.etc I amd very pleased with this Panasonic, After a week or so your beard seems to get used to the new shaver and I now find I am getting very close comfortable shaves every day, initially the shaver seems a little bulky but I quickly found it very easy to use.I have a goatee type beatdand the trimmer is excellent for shaving around it etc. Its eady to clean and the battery ladts me 2 weeks confortably.
I have had this item for a few weeks now and did some thorough research before purchasing including the reviews on Amazon.
This is the closest shave you will get compared to a normal mach 3 or similar. This piece of kit is simply outstanding. I have another Panasonic shaver currently which while being good is nowhere close to the performance of this.
My advice would be to purchase. Don’t even think about it. You won’t be disappointed.
Very close shave.
This shaver is best used for every day shaving. If you like to leave it for a couple of days in between then you may get a bit of pulling. It shaves almost as close as a Mach 3. I got 8 days use out of a full charge and was still at 20% left. If you have very wiry hair then I would suggest looking at a Braun but this is brilliant and would be your best option if you don’t. I can wholeheartedly say this is a brilliant shaver.
Can an electric shaver ever be as good as a wet shave with a razor? No it cannot, simply due to the fact that there will always be a metal foil or similar between the blade and the skin. However, this shaver by far gives the best shave I have ever had from an electric one I use it dry, I have not used it wet with shaving foam/gel yet because if I put foam/gel on my face I may as well use a razor! Either way, if you prefer to use an electric shaver I highly recommend this one.
This is an excellent shaver. I use this shaver to shave my head, I had a pitbull platinum but had nothing but problems with the motor stopping and blades coming apart and impossible to fit back together. After reading a few Internet reviews I decided to give this a try. I was initially skeptical about a foil razor being used on my head, expecting razor burn or an uneven shave. I couldn’t be more wrong. The shave is nice and close, the shaver feels powerful and left my hair nice and short and no razor burn. I’d highly recommend for anyone disillusioned with the pitbull.
It works.......but no dedicated charging stand......
I have been using a Braun electric razor for a number of years, in the recent past I began to notice that as it was run across my face there seemed to be a swarm of angry bee’s buzzing around my head. I replaced the foil and blades sadly the buzzing didn’t go away, and the shave was not as I would have expected with the odd rough patch and whiskery strand being missed. I decided to change the razor and after some deliberation invested in this Panasonic.
I have been using same regularly and am finding that it is doing a good shop even renegade whiskers are getting chopped back.
The downside is that the razor is not supplied with it’s own dedicated charging stand. After use and when put on charge the device has to be plugged in and left lying on a shelf, or some similar surface…
Otherwise, at this time, it is working very well
Quality wet or dry shave
A quality product to use wet or dry. If using wet then only use shaving foam as this washes out better. Lasts a long time between charges. Comfortable on skin although it will not be as good as an ordinary razor shave.
Having always had rotary electric shavers, this is my first foil shaver and, so far, I have not been disappointed. It’s very smooth on the skin and reasonably quiet. With my old shaver, I had reached the point (AKA old age!) where I could only shave every couple of days as my skin became sore. No such problem with this shaver. Daily shaves and no discomfort. Just two niggles. Cleaning with the brush, it can be awkward to get between the blades and you end up shaving the cleaning brush! Also, the battery doesn’t seem to last as long as my old shaver even though shaving with this is much faster. Otherwise very happy with this.
Really does shave as close as a blade
Works as well as a blade, even in dry mode. Only concern is how long the rechargeable battery will last – manual says 3 years if charged once every 2 weeks but I seem to need to charge it once a week.
My father is meticulously well groomed at all times and takes great pride in shaving so that he doesn’t have a hair out of place. He used to be a fan of Braun shavers but doesn’t like the current integrated blade mechanism within the foil. Having meticulously researched the topic, he came to the conclusion that Panasonic now make the best shavers. I therefore bought him this shaver as an 80th birthday present. He is delighted with it. No razor burn, no irritation at all whilst shaving and he was able to achieve a perfect result far quicker than his older Panasonic model.
Great high quality shave
The best you can get really close very good for people with thick beard growth like mine but the trimmers useless so i dont think il be using that comparing this to philips new models which are really poor compared to how they used to be i give panasonic the future of shaving i will edit this review but so far sooo good
After one week of daily use (dry), I came to the conclusion that this is a masterpiece of electric shaver. Light weight and easy to handle, noise is at a very acceptable level and, most important, the shave is as close as with the usual razor, without the in inherent irritation. So far, just a quick wash under the water tap was enough to clean it. At the discounted price, it is a good value for money buy.
As good as, if not better than, a wet shave.
I cannot believe how close this shaver shaves! I keep stroking my face in wonderment. I’ve tried many brands of razor and always reverted back to wet shaving and just used an electric shaver to finish off bits that I might have missed. This shaver is amazing.
I bought this so I could shave my own head, because at some point you have to take male pattern baldness by the horns – and believe you me it gets the job done!
I have a Wahl Professional Balding Clipper but found that it would get down to a grade 0.5 but not completely shaved. The ES-LV65 leaves my scalp feeling as though I had used a wet razor blade all over. No knicks, no cuts. After a few attempts, I’ve found that the best shave is thus;
1 – Use balding clippers to shorten the hair as much as possible.
2 – Shower! You’ve got a load of hair over your shoulders and it softens up the stubble.
3 – Once clean, use a shaving oil such as Somersets Maximum Glide Original Shaving Oil 15ml on your scalp. Dry the rest of yourself.
4 – Put a spot of razor oil on each of the foils of the shaving head, included in the box. It’s an overlooked point but it all helps if both the head and shaver are lubricated.
5 – Get shaving! You don’t need a lot of pressure, gently run the shaver over for a super smooth scalp.
You should only need to do this every other day, after a few days of not shaving it all over it gets too long for the shaver and you need the clippers to get the hair short enough.
Game change
After 45 years of wet shaving I am glad I took the plunge and bought this razor. With a little time and care you can get as close to a really good wet shave as makes no difference with this razor. Quick charge time (under an hour) and so easy to clean, no hesitation in recommending this razor to any one who doubts the ability of modern electric razors.
Never used an electric shaver before, my beard does not grow that fast and I would say I have a medium to thick beard or hairs. My facial hair covers my neck and face with no ‘gaps’ as such.
I found this shaver (using first time) feels like a vacuum on my face, it does pull the hairs probably about 1% of the time. But for me this shaver was 100% more comfortable to shave with than using a Gillette shaver.
Using this Panasonic shaver I did not apply anything to my face before hand, I’m not sure if I will need to?
Also with this shaver i found for the first time in my life I have shaved and have not had any rash or spots on my neck. I’m now 48 hours after my first shave and no discomfort or spots or any sign of a rash on my face. This is what I am really pleased about.
The side trimmer really does a good job too, any longer hairs you can trim using this then continue shaving with the main head.
I must say this shaver really does get close to your skin and I was in astonishment at the smoothness of my face afterwards.
The reason I stuck with the Panasonic brand is due to loyalty to the brand knowing they work and do the job well! This shaver is made in Japan for those of you that consider this as part of your purchase.
Highly recommended!
