I’ve had many of these through the years. They say to replace them periodically and I’ve always just stuck to the same model. Always works perfectly well enough and not too expensive. We always have two around the house.

Unlike our previous CO alarm, I am pleased to say that this has AA batteries which can be replaced.
Our previous alarm has sealed batteries and when the alarm had reached its end-of-life, the batteries were still working.
Unless I smash open the old alarm, I do not know how to stop it squeaking!

Alarm test burst the ear drums. My grandad thought he was back in the blitz and ran for his life under the table. Took some smelling salts and a strong bottle of whiskey to bring him round. This is a small, neat and unobtrusive unit which fully complies with the requirements of the Boat Safety scheme. I have installed mine in the “breathing zone” at the head of my bed so I have no doubt if it were ever to trigger I would be out of bed like a shot. It is very loud indeed and and easy to operate. I would certainly recommend it for all Boat, caravan and RV users where space can be at a premium and the “Silent Killer” could lurk.

Golden Review Award: 6 From Our UsersOur old carbon monoxide detector had passed its life expectancy and had to be replaced.

Easy to install and use, this is a very good value for money carbon monoxide alarm. It comes complete with alkaline batteries and same day delivery.

The instructions are adequate and clear. There is also a 7 year warranty. The expected life span is 10 years and there is a space on the bottom to put the installation date.

The device is CE certified and has a very LOUD alarm!

At 10, this seems to be excellent value – especially when compared with high street prices and the 30+ British Gas wanted to charge me!
    I am more than pleased.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersI was rudely awoken by a British Gas employee who had been called out to my neighbour’s house regarding a suspected Carbon Monoxide Leak. The neighbour’s monoxide detector had triggered and called out the Gas Board, who could not locate any leak in their property – so investigated around my house.

Given that I was genuinely asleep when he called and had had a boiler issue the prior weekend, I was a bit panicked thinking that I might have been getting gassed in my own own. Thankfully, there was no issue, but at that point I realised that my own carbon monoxide detector had expired earlier in the year – having owned it for about 15 years…

So at that point, I made a snap decision to get one delivered next day by Amazon! Less than 24-hours later it arrived. It came with three batteries, ready to go. Everything was easy to set up and install. There’s a helpful test feature that you can acquaint yourself with to see how loud the alarm is, so I tested all this and placed it in the recommended spot around my boiler and cooker.

Everything works perfectly so I’m very happy. The service from Amazon was good and the convenience of knowing that I could get the alarm the next day was good. At this price, there’s no reason that every house with a gas supply shouldn’t have one of these.

Ordered in the evening. Delivered the following morning and installed before mid day. Test buttons work all OK so can only assume it is in good working order. Previous reviews suggest this to be the case. NB This is NOT a substitute for a smoke detector and will run along side my smoke detector in my lounge where I have a wood burning stove.

My seven year carbon monoxide detector bleeped that it needed replacing. This was ordered one day and came the next, although I did not make a special request. It arrived in time for my free bi-annual check by the fire brigade, so, although they usually deal only with smoke alarms, she very helpfully advised where to place it and actually fixed it for me.
I am now ordering another for the other multi-fuel heater.

Golden Review Award: 5 From Our UsersI had the plumber round the other day to look at my boiler. The hot water hasn’t been great recently and I was fed up of having lukewarm showers and baths. My boiler is quite old, maybe 20 years. It was already old when I moved into my house 9 years ago so I wasn’t too surprised when the plumber read the last rights for my gas boiler and told me it was beyond the stage that it would be economical to repair and it was going to cost many spondoolies to get a new one. Oh dear I thought. He also pointed out that I did not have a carbon monoxide monitor. I told him that there used to be one in the house but I threw it out because it kept beeping at me. He gave me a strange sideways looks and then told me in no uncertain terms that I really should have one because it could save my life one day. I pointed out that the old one have beeped because the batteries was going flat rather than any concerns about noxious emissions but he insisted that this was not a satisfactory state of affairs and he would not settle until I promised to purchase one immediately. Apparently they sell these in DIY stores and other such places but it is a bit of a chew to drive to the other side of town to spend twenty minutes trying to find the right aisle before asking someone in an orange apron only to be told they are on aisle 37 and you are on aisle 2 and then have to queue behind burly looking people with plaster splattered overalls with their over laden trolleys just to pay for your single item. I elected to go on line and this little beauty caught my eye immediately. A couple of clicks on my phone and, job done, as they say. It arrived the next day. I put the batteries in and it works straight away. I have put it right next to my gas boiler and I can now sleep at night in knowledge that it will wake me up if there is either a carbon monoxide or carbon dioxide emittance. It is made in China.

Purchased to replace a Kidde model which had reached end of life. Lifesaver is a brand of Kidde. Slid onto screws fitted for the old Kidde Model no problem.
The test worked as described i.e. Press test button, one beep followed by 4 beeps, brief pause, 4 more beeps and ending with a single beep. Have to assume all working OK. I do have a number of CO2 detectors around the house both mains and battery operated and of different makes.

Golden Review Award: 11 From Our UsersIt’s always hard to know if a carbon monoxide alarm actually works. So I’m writing this review to state that mine actually went off after about 2 years of owning it, and alerted the family to something we would have been oblivious to otherwise.

I’m happy this worked when we needed it – unfortunately it happened to be at Christmas, but it’s better to be cold, safe and miserable than dead. 🙂

I recommend that as well as getting the alarm, you make sure you have the sticker up which helps to know what to do if it does go off.

Following from a visit by a gas engineer, I’ve taken off a star because there’s been a long term carbon monoxide leak which wasn’t detected by this alarm. It only went off when there were very high levels, and turned back off while there was still carbon monoxide in the room.

I’m not sure what level this is supposed to sound at, but it would be great if it was made clear that you can have carbon monoxide leaks and the alarm won’t sound.

  59. Ashlee Clark-Thompson says:

     United Kingdom

Golden Review Award: 12 From Our UsersThis CO alarm is a compact, neat design powered by 3x new AA batteries which are supplied in the box.

Screws and raw plugs are included for wall mounting, but it also stands up on its own on a high shelf. There’s a press-button to test the audible alarm is working, and in any case every 30 seconds a small green light flashes to tell you the batteries are still OK.

The manufacturer includes a leaflet with accurate medical information about the effects of exposure to carbon monoxide in stages, and the alarm will sound when it calculates the percentage of CO in the atmosphere over time reaches potentially harmful levels.

A very good product: affordable, well-designed and with a loud alarm. Recommended.

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersWell, after many years of not owning a carbon monoxide alarm, the other half finally said for safety it would be wise to purchase one for our bedroom.

This lifesaver alarm is an unobtrusive and cheap way to offer peace of mind and safety in case of a carbon monoxide risk.

Installing is simple as popping batteries in and you’re away, downside is it doesn’t cover gas leaks or similar but for harmful carbon monoxide it should do the job, obviously can’t say if it picks it up as luckily i don’t have a leak! 😉

I paid about 11 which isn’t too bad for what it claims to do, there’s a hefty warranty included which means it should provide safety for years to come.

Golden Review Award: 5 From Our UsersThis is a second purchase of one of these. The first one is still going well but we are advised to have one in our lounge too as we have an open fire. It is easy to move this alarm around as it stands up well. We also have an option to mount it on the wall. A good point is the green light that flashes on every 30s (to let you know it is working) is not intrusive which is why we chose it for the lounge. However, it is easy to press the button to ‘test’ the alarm when moving it around for dusting, etc. It did make me jump. I’ll probably wall mount it eventually. Well worth the money.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersThe Life Saver carbon monoxide alarm is a relatively small, portable device which comes with a detachable fixing bracket, and 3 AA batteries.

This is my second unit as I discovered last week that they have a 7 year life then need replacing. Whilst I am not pleased that these do need to be replaced, they are a vital piece of equipment if you have a gas boiler or any gas equipment in the home or office.

This is excellent value and I hope I never have a need for it, but it’s absolutely essential.

As it is the same model fitting was very easy. These alarms are well made and fairly robust. Golden Review Award: 61 From Our UsersI have now bought a 2nd one of these alarms. It is usually difficult to know if a carbonmonoxide alarm works unless one is exposed to the dangerous gas which could then be too late. In this case I installed an alarm then left my holiday house for the winter. Before doing so I parked my lawnmower out of sight in the house so that it would not be stolen outside. When I returned to the house I started up the engine to park it outdoors again and the fumes were enough to set off the co2 alarm. I am very impressed.

I’ve used these in virtually every room over the past 6 years or so, and wanted to add another. Unobtrusive, easy to mount or place where needed. Reassuring little devices. I had a scare years ago that drove me to have the gas serviced more often, chimneys checked for blockages and leaks, airflow checked and alarms installed. Recommended.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersI know it works as I had my ride on lawnmower running in my garage for two minutes. Then switched of, left the garage and closed the door. Came back half an hour later and the alarm was going off – the carbon monoxide from the engine exhaust gases.

I bought this because of the good price. It arrived promptly and was well-packaged and seems a solid, well-made unit. It is certainly a very good idea to install one of these. It did not occur to me until my gas stove started pumping black smoke which turned out to contain carbon monoxide. I now have one in the kitchen and this new one will be in our caravan. I can’t comment on how well it works, obviously, but I think it is likely to be effective.

Golden Review Award: 65 From Our UsersMuch smaller and neater than my old alarm from British Gas, this is battery-operated (3xAA, included), and has a 7 year warranty. It’s simple to set up, tests itself so you know it’s active, then just works. The siren is loud, and the alarm beeps when the batteries need changing – all for about a third of the British Gas price.

Having an old boiler I was long over due for a monoxide detector and had relied on the sticker kind in the past.

Item tested fine on arrival and has a very loud alarm on it.

A little peace of mind for a little cost.

Does what it’s supposed to – I have the version with the display and also this one in different areas of the house. Worth spending the money for peace of mind. Loud alarm, easy to test. This one is definitely a genuine product; it feels solid and well finished, labelling and packaging looked right. I bought a CO alarm last year that was 20% cheaper, but it looked, well, unbranded and sort of flimsy. Shortly afterwards I saw a consumer programme reporting dodgy alarms being sold online via even the reputable websites -not just the really obvious too cheap to be real products; but versions selling at just marginally less than the going rate. A couple of days later the battery went on mine – this is one of the signs of a fake CO alarm. Straight in the bin, tenner wasted. It’s just not worth taking the chance to save three or four quid.

Well, I can’t say that it has saved my life, but I can certainly guarantee that is hasn’t “not” saved my life either, as can be ascertained by the fact that I’m still here to write this review (or maybe there’s some spiritual afterlife ghost reviewing going on, but let’s face it, if that was the case I’d be far more interested in hanging around in Angelina Jolie’s bedroom along with no doubt 5 million other spiritual entities).

It seems to work, it’s small, unobtrusive, loud when the test button is pressed, and good value for money compared with the older the model the gas engineering was trying to sell us.

This detector is well-built, it was easy to install the batteries, and it makes a massive racket when the alarm goes off. My wife nearly jumped out of her skin when she first went to put the batteries in – it makes a loud beep straight away to let you know that it’s all working. It’s light enough that you can use sticky pads or command strips to attach it to the wall, or you could use screws if you like drilling holes in things.

Big plus – it comes with batteries! Always nice.

Don’t be tempted to use any of the indicators/detectors that will just darken when exposed to carbon monoxide – they’ll never wake you up if there’s a build up at night, which is the only time you really want this to work.

Carbon monoxide alarm, I bought this as a travel alarm after friend had a close call on holiday, this, from now on will go everywhere with me when travelling. This alarm is free standing and wall mountable and small enough to fit into an overnight bag, I tested it as soon as it arrived and the alarm is nice and loud, just the job. its now in my overnight bag, ready to go. My advice get one, stay safe.
    Update, November 2016,
I have since bought another one of these alarms for our motorhome along with a smoke detector, another essential piece of kit while traveling.
would also be good for caravans especially where bottled gas is being used, safety doesn’t take a day off.

Easy to use and easy to install. I think every home should have one of these great devices…..It is a small price to pay to protect yourself and your family. Carbon Monoxide is a silent killer and this unit sounds a very loud alarm when it detects it in your home, giving you the time to make good your escape.
The unit’s instructions booklet is very clear and also give you a list of signs and symptoms that carbon monoxide causes in humans when exposed to it. It also lists common sources of carbon monoxide in the home.
