Although initially slightly sceptical about the appearance of this firefighter, after reading previous reviews I decided to purchase these to find out for myself how effective these would be. I have not been disappointed as these firefighters are the best I have ever used. They are simple to light, give off no oily smoke as paraffin lighters do, and are easy and safe to store. Would recommend.

These are better than the chemical ones and are all natural. I find they burn best when you stand them on end, they will even light a log that has been placed on top of the kindling with ease.

Yes you can use paper but this is just so handy. I used to have to feed wads of paper into the wood burner get the kindling going. But you just light one of these and you’re off! I’d imagine these would be great for the BBQ

Easy fire lighting with no smelly firelighters to store. Keep them somewhere dry though or they do get harder to light when stored in a damp garage.

Not quite as good/convenient/cheap as traditional firelighters, but not bad and more ecological.
First, they work.
I am using them to light a traditional hearth fire in a house (I know these are also used for camping and barbecues…) They appear to be wood shavings round a wax core. They are both light in weight and light easily.
One will light a fire but I find myself using two, just to speed it up a bit (which destroys any economic argument…).
They require a slightly different technique to old style lighters. They seem to light the kindling underneath them rather than on top! Traditionally I would have put a lighter on the bottom of the hearth, lit it, then piled kindling on top to catch light from the flames. With these, the wax drips out of them as they burn, so you need to put them on top of most of the kindling – which is different but not difficult.
They work very well
..excellent for lighting the BBQ. Instantly lights a few bits of kindling to get the charcoal alight quickly too.

Been using these for a few years now and for the money, the bulk packs are great value. I keep a couple of the 50 boxes from previous orders to decant these into.
Use one or two per fire in my stove and 2 under the Weber chimney starter for BBQ’s.
For anyone who hasn’t searched for ‘upside down fire’ on the popular video site, have a watch, will revolutionise getting your stove going and up to temperature quickly. I only discovered this about 18 months ago but it’s so much more efficient than kindling/starters at the bottom.

Reliable Charcoal Starte
I bought some single-wood charcoal and the suppliers said not to use those white, solid blocks to set the charcoal on fire “because your food will stink of paraffin”. Although they recommended these little fire starters made entirely of wood fibre, looking a bit like coconut macaroons, I declined to order them at the time because I have never felt the food had a paraffinny taste. But I decided to look at these wood fire-starters again and ordered the box of Flamers.
Some reviews said they had to use two Flamers but I have only ever found that one was entirely sufficient. In fact I am very impressed with their effectiveness. I have a number of bottles of fire-start jollop but, after using these little wood macaroons, they are effectively surplus to requirement.

These are excellent at getting a fire going. We used a few of them to light a BBQ last night, no extra fuel needed, just literally these and some coal. Produced barely any smoke at all and all natural. Highly recommended.

Worked a treat with a bbq chimney starte
Bought the smaller pack to test them first – worked a treat. I used 2 with a Weber chimney starter and they got the briquettes hot enough without having to use any newspaper.

Beats other bbq lighters
This has made lighting up bbq’s so much easier. I have tried both chemical lighters (solid and liquid) with varying results depending on amount used, environmental conditions etc. I gave this a try following the reviews and video and it’s been brilliant so far. Once I’ve arranged my coal around the lighter i can leave it untouched for 5-10min and the flame will keep going and light up the surrounding coal. Just need to spread out the coal and a bit of fanning and the coal is ready. Very easy to use, lights up instantly, hassle free, no chemical smell and flame keeps burning as described – recommend 100%

Nice lighters little pricy for what they are but they do make lighting the barbecue much easier.

Work perfectly with fires, didn’t have same luck with a barbecue but think the coals were problematic anyway as had bother with them when using lighting gel too.
Great with a fire, build logs/wood jenga like and put one in middle then build more wood around it. Light it and that’s it. Very easy.

Makes starting up the BBQ so much easier and relaxed. Didn’t notice a smell. We use wood charcoal and it worked great. The more natural we can get the better.
Effective firelighters for bbq
These firelighters work well for lighting charcoal. I use two in a chimney starter to light the charcoal and they work as effectively as a traditional firelighter. The paraffin wax burns without any unpleasant odour – smells of a burning candle for a few minutes as you would expect. Would recommend thses as a more sustainable version of firelighters for a bbq.

Really great natural barbecue starte
These are a little more expensive but far better than petrol based barbecue coal starters. They take a match easily and light really quickly and have no petrol smell. These firelighters get to a high temperature really quickly and bbq coals burned really well with them. A good buy as a box of 50 at just above 10p a go are well worth it as they are so easy to use and work really well. Very impressed.

Lovely product to handle, clean and no aroma or smoke – lights very easy and does burn for a long time, they were smaller than expected and for a decent size barbecue you would need two or three of them plus fairly easy to burn charcoal. Brickette style coals were not so successful. For the Green person they are ideal and also if you are taking a small barbie. out for picnic style trip great! Would I buy them again? Jury is out on this, but possibly, due to their ease of use and cleanliness of the natural product. Good value for money due to the number you get against coal style paraffin lighters

I have never used this type of firelighter before so decided to try them as the price for 50 in the box I felt was good. Very pleased! They light easily, only one needed, they burn for a good 10 minutes or more with a strong steady flame to light the kindling but best of all absolutely no odour! I used these firelighters in a multifuel burner but will also use them on the BBQ as stated on the box due to them being odourless & natural. Highly recommended.

Spot on. I use them with a chimney starter and they get things going really quickly.
Easy and long lasting
Love these. Add a couple to the bottom of a charcoal chimney and light them. Then pile charcoal inside and they’ll be ready to cook in 15-25 mins depending on how much you put in.
These leave no nasty taste or smell in the coal or food and are sold in cardboard and not individually wrapped like other lighting products.

These things burn for around 7-8 minutes which is plenty long enough to light kindling or even small pieces of wood which is what we used it for.
