So far, so good. Waiting for it to dry back to really see the results but it pulled up a lot of grot! Seems very powerful. Bulldog approves!
The video shows me cleaning the dogs’ own chair so it was always going to be ultra gross, admittedly but it did well with some old stains on the carpet. We’ll see when it’s fully dry!

Power cable is long Hose isn’t very long Good for stairs wheels are great but is quite heavy to lift up steps Not much noisier than a vax or hoover plastic hose is very stiff which adds to user effort problem for people with poor grip as tanks, nozzles and large cleaning head need strength and dexterity in your hands and fingers easy to set up and use compact effective clean fairly easy to clean out.
Hopefully going to prove worth the money over time. I hope this review is helpful!

Fabulous bit of kit. I bought it to clean some muddy spots in the hall but it brought the carpet up so clean I had to go all over. It was hard work but the results were well worth it. The water it the used tank was disgustingly mucky – embarrassing.

I’m so impressed I’m buzzing!! It’s not the 1 I had ordered 2 weeks ago that never arrived!! It’s a bit louder than a hover brill sucking power anything that I have used it on with it with the trial bottle is clean washed almost dry with in the an hr all like new clean again!! its good that you can rise all out after wards when finished , I’m in a mobile home With 2 kids under 3 as we are building, I’m so happy could not recommend it enough especially when ya kids

Very impressed with this product, had some internal work done and the stairs got very soiled but the cleaner restored the carpet perfectly, alright it’s a bit noisy which could affect hearing but nothing major surgery can’t solve
All the negative comments are unjustified in my view, I am very pleased and if something should go wrong in the future I’m sure the supplier will do their best to sot it out.

This is brilliant little machine. I bought for my elderly aunt’s home, as she occasionally spills drinks and drops food, amongst other things. I have used this for cleaning her chair and around her chair, and it does what it says in the box! In addition, it is compact and easy to store. Would definitely recommend!

I used it on my settee witch had denim dye on it tried lots of things with no result but the rug doc got it out very pleased doing my car next.
First of all, I was quite surprised that this came with 2 small bottles of spot cleaner and a small bottle of carpet cleaner. The carpet cleaner doesn’t specify whether it’s pet safe however. One of the bottles of spot cleaner had leaked a little all over the box- but honestly it was a tiny amount and I wasn’t expecting the bottles at all so I wasn’t too bothered, although it did mean I had to recycle the box instead of my usual method of storing it for a while in case of returns!
I found it very easy to use- I have pretty bad carpal tunnel in both wrists so I was a bit worried, but it didn’t create a huge issue. I did have to switch hands frequently when one wrist started to get fatigued, but didn’t have any lasting issues after cleaning 2 medium rugs, one large rug and a sofa. If you’ve particularly weak arm muscles you may want to try the upright machine instead or get a friend to do it for you!
My rugs were all bought new in December 2020, so they’ve only had 9 months of use, mainly in lockdown, so only I’ve been walking over them in socked feet. Any rare guests have been made to take shoes off. The picture shows the waste water from the single large area rug, which has never so much as seen an outdoor shoe and is vacuumed daily, and it’s still surprisingly dirty!
The small rugs took perhaps 10-20 mins and the large maybe 30-45. They took around 30 minutes to be dry enough to walk across without getting soaked feet, and about 3 hours to dry completely with the windows open. The sofa took about half an hour and took maybe six hours to dry completely. The suction is very powerful, but my sofa surface is pitted which made it hard for the unit to get a seal to suction the water out completely.
My only slight quibble is with the spray which shoots slightly wide of the carpet so you have to aim it to avoid getting a puddle of cleaner on the floor! It also drips infrequently. And as another review mentioned, you have to have everything ready to go to fill the unit from a protruding tap and add the solution to it because it doesn’t have a flat top so you have to hold it in position. I saw a question about how to remove the vacuum front for cleaning, and it does tend to get dirt and hairs lodged in it I noticed- it’s a clear plastic front so you can see all the water being sucked out (and when there’s no more liquid to suction) but it does look dirty after a while. I found just running a little tap water in to it and then swishing it around and pouring it back out cleaned this part very well.
Oh and one last small gripe- the instructions say the waste tank is designed for you to fit your hand inside to give it a good clean. I have fairly small hands and it was still a slightly painful scrape getting it in, so I don’t recommend this unless you have child sized hands to be honest!
Cable and hose wrap neatly and the unit stores very compactly for small spaces.

Great tool for cleaning the sofa, car carpets and seats. Also removed red wine stain from 1 month ago and cleans up pet sick marks.
It’s a bit trickier doing the car carpets as the head of the device is quite big. If they did interchangeable heads it would be even better.

It is an excellent machine
Really effective carpet cleaner for small areas. Larger carpets would take time and effort – it is a hands and knees job. But it would do it well.

I’ve hired many Rug Doctors from supermarkets over the years and thought this compact would offer a good alternative.
The two water vessels have a daft shaped moulded grip but once you get use to them they’re fine. One courious thing is there are two handles… once for carrying and one which extends for general wheeling it about.. Seems abit daft not to design one that would serve both requirments.. Would suggest they look at a couple of suitcase designs as a starter. THey’ve been doing it for years !!

Very effective for small-mid sized cleaning. Vacuum more than powerful enough and the agitator does a good job of getting into thicker pile. We previously had an upright carpet cleaner but this is far less of a faff to operate. Highly recommended.

Fantastic product used this on my car, stairs and on the whole upstairs carpets yes it takes a little longer but does what it says and dries within a hour
At first the spray wasn’t working so was disappointed but if you take you dilution out and tip the rug doctor upside down and press the spray with the powder on it will release the air bubble abs work like normal

So far so good. Hard on a bad or sore back.
Not used on stairs so far but feel it will be cumbersome especially with my back. Did some spot cleansing on living room and hallway carpets. Hallway carpet took a lot of work as short pile and hardwaring carpet out there (wasxon hands and knees) but we saw an improvement. Living room carpet gave better results. Mom keeps spilling hot chocolate or coffee in the same spots and it had dried in. I got to work on the staines and they came up well enough although one patch took a few goings over which resulted in a faded shadow stain. We need to use it in a few other areas around mums home like the bed (split drinks ) and her bedroom carpet by the side of the bed where shes tends to get in and out of and her recliner chair needs a freshen up.

Overall happy but its heavy on the (my) back. Can see the dirty water which shows the progress. Takes out a lot of the water but you still have to protect the area while it dries fully or you’ll just restrain the area.
It’s not too bad to clean the appliance.
Need to find a safe place to store as not as neat in size as hoped so can be a tripping hazard.

Very good product, cleans really well. leaves things a bit wetter than I’d like, which means drying time of furniture is slow . Only big issue really is the clean water tank needs to be held upside down when filling and while you try to add detergent (this is a bit fiddly with 1 hand) as the rounded top wont allow it it to be put on a flat surface, However, the pros do outweigh the cons of this little machine.

Sadly the cat had peed up the corner, so I bought this to clean up. It really did the job well, and where the cats come in from the garden there are muddy tracks, It sorted this too, and the high traffic area. Though it is hard work bending down as it’s really only a spot cleaner but it has done the job well. For larger areas a full blown cleaner is required. But for small areas it does the job. I was in two minds to go for this or the bissell spot cleaner. I am pleased I chose this. It very noisy though, but does the job.

I am so embarrassed by how filthy my carpet was, I didn’t realise just how bad it was until I cleaned my stairs today. I have had a bissell spot cleaner years ago and also have an upright bissell but I will never go to any other brand than Rug Doctor again. This is so easy to use and amazing results without needing a pretreatment. I have a dog and kids and the amount of muck that gets walked up the stairs is unbelievable but this little beauty made light work of cleaning it. It is heavier than I was expecting but I would say manageable for most. I bought a Rug Doctor cleaning solution which I used rather than the sample supplied and that smells very pleasant and fresh. The carpet is drying rather quickly which is great. I really like that you can get inside the waste tank to give it a good clean afterwards, it would be good to be able to clean inside the handheld part but I will look into this. The only downside is that the the water tanks are an awkward shape causing a little difficulty in filling. I have found this with previous machines too, it would be easier with a flat bottom to stand in the sink. All in all, a brilliant cleaner which I would highly recommend. I just need to save up now for a new upright cleane

This is a remarkable spot cleaner…the best I have ever owned or used! I purchased this cleaner in 2016 and just wouldn’t be without it! As an owner of three dogs, the Rug Doctor is invaluable when it comes to cleaning up sick patches (apologies for that) because it is quick and easy to get the machine out and clean up straight away. Also, two years ago I adopted an ex-breeding rescue dog who had no idea of house training; when she did a wee on the carpet out came the Rug Doctor and it was immediately sucked up and then given a quick clean with the Pet Carpet solution. Hey presto! no stain and no smell! It is worth its weight in gold! I also own the full size version for when I do a full carpet clean and I wouldn’t be without this one either! Worth every penny and leaves carpets virtually dry….no having to wait to walk on it! Well done Rug Doctor!

Well I’ve used it and was pleased with the results, the motorised brush is brilliant and the suction is as good as my upright Vax cleaner attachment, well worth the price. The machine is well made and sits on a stair quite easily but because it’s a spot cleaner it holds about 1.5 litres of clean water which depletes quite quickly.

Some flaws but good overall
Overall this is a decent product and it did a good job of cleaning, but it does have some niggling design issues that hold it back.
The build quality is acceptable for a domestic cleaner. The extendable ‘luggage-style’ handle feels flimsy and I’m not sure the motorised brush will last forever. However, as weaknesses go, I’m not too concerned since even if both failed over time I will still have a usable extractor. The hose is just about long enough, but only just. It’s a reasonable compromise between utility and compactness.
In use I did manage to pull the Rug Doctor over a few times which rolled it onto its back. This is a consequence of the hose being attached at the bottom and the machine having a relatively small footprint without casters. It’s not as mobile as a vacuum cleaner which takes some getting used to.
The Rug Doctor comes with 236ml of cleaning solution which is good for 2 tanks worth of clean water. I’m glad they include this, as it servers as a ‘tester pot’ and let’s you try out the machine right away. The solution itself seems to do a good job and there is surprisingly little scent. Of course, Rug Doctor recommend you ‘only’ use their solution, but you can get 2 litres for around 10 which by my maths is good for 16 tanks.
The design of the clean water tank is awkward. There are no two ways about it. I had to balance it on a dish rack to get it anywhere near level while I poured in the cleaning solution. You’re better off measuring the solution out separately (approx 125ml), adding that to an empty tank, and then just filling from the tap. If you don’t throw away the included bottle you could use that as a measuring aid (fill it half way). It doesn’t give a good first impression, but it’s not too bad.
As a general purpose cleaner to have on standby the Rug Doctor solution seems fine, but to get the most out of the extractor you’re better off choosing the most appropriate cleaner for the task and applying it directly (NOT in the clean water tank). So for example I used a mixture of Daz and hot water scrubbed into a mattress I was cleaning, and then used the Rug Doctor to extract. It worked great and no harm to the machine.
The motorised brush is described as ‘strong’. I’m not sure I agree with this as in reality it’s more of a tickle. But it’s better than nothing and the vibration through the hand unit is not uncomfortable, even during extended use. This is great and is probably overlooked as some powered tools become unbearable over time.
I’m not an unclean person and regularly vacuum, but an extractor will put you to shame if you haven’t used one before and the Rug Doctor does a good job of this. Watching the waste water being extracted is as horrifying as it is satisfying. But if you like cleaning I dare say you might even enjoy it, and emptying the waste water tank gives you a good feeling of a job well done.
I’ve noticed 1 tank of clean water generates about 1/2 a tank of waste water on dry material i.e not dealing with a spillage. Rug Doctor seem to agree, because their max fill line on waste tank is about half way. Again with a compact unit there are compromises to be made but I didn’t feel like I was forever emptying and refilling the tanks.
Overall I like this product. Niggles aside it does its main job well. I would definitely recommend it for cars, seating, stairs, small areas of carpet etc. If you have designs on doing whole rooms with this though, I’d probably hold off or at least try to hire/borrow one first. Is it possible? Yes. But you’ll quickly realise it’s not the right tool for that particular job.

Update: I spent a little more time with the Rug Doctor and gave my car a proper valet. Even though it got the job done, it does have some issues. The first is the hand unit, which is reasonably wide and has trouble with more awkward areas around seat bolsters etc. Also, the length of the hose. It just about reaches the headrest in my hatchback. If you have a larger car you’re going to get frustrated.
It still did a good job on the seats but if you’re buying this with mainly the car in mind you might wish to reconsider.

Great carpet cleaning for spot areas
Great for spot cleaning. Quite large with enough to do a couple of flights of stairs without difficulty. There is a separate powered brush on the nozze that I don’t understand why you would ever choose not to use… But it has a separate power button.
We have a nightmare sofa that stains from the slightest contact with anything – including water (true story). This has got every tiny mark out. Looks brand new!
Ignore the nonsense about leaking as you have to invert the clean water tank. While that’s true you just need to do it over the sink – so it’s not a problem.

It's really good item but they need to improve it.
In general I am happy with this item, but there are some issues I would like to mention it. Firstly the tanks for clean water and for dirty water are both working opposite way .if I want to empty the tank for a dirty water I need to remove it not to turn it upside down but the tank for clean water you need to turn it upside down. Secondly, every 4 minutes you need to empty the tank because it fills very quickly. Lastly and it was very annoying me when filling the tank with clean water and carpet shampoo you can’t hold the tank it’s really difficult.

This cleaner is great,stairs came up really clean,have had a lot of building work done inside the house,stair carpet was filthy,now looks like new and smells fresh again.
Fantastic but noisy
Haven’t tried on stairs yet but used on the landing for a few spots and was shocked at the muck it got up! Very noisy though but works very well. Spots were almost fully dry quite quickly . Even though I use a dry carpet cleaner regularly I thought my carpets were fairly clean. I am now going to rent a big size Rug Doctor to do the whole house!

Fantastic we brought this for our German Shepherd Bitch as she has DM and sometimes has Accidents on the carpet would not be without it and so easy to store being small and compact but it has an amazing suction you would not be disappointed

Light and easy to use - and it works
This is a fairly light and easily transportable device that is easy to implement and use. You just fill up one of the glass tanks with warm water and cleaning fluid and the other tank fills up with the waste as you use it. My first using of the product was a bit disappointing as some stains were still left. The trick is to work on the stains first with a bit of fluid on a damp cloth (without rubbing too hard as to damage the carpet) and then hit it with the motorised head of the machine. It lightly scrubs as you apply a light vapour of moisture with a trigger. You can’t do a huge area on one tank of water, just about one square yard but that is all it is designed to do. The carpet quickly dries and looks like new afterwards. One word of caution – it is a bit messy with the drips as you take it away afterwards so you have to hold a newspaper under it.

This is a fantastic carpet cleaner and is great for any job it’s easy to use and gets rid of stains easy , I love the way it’s got a trolley pull design it makes moving it around much easier and I would definitely recommend this great cleane

I like to get down old school style on my knees and this allows you to just sit on the floor however you please whilst spraying brushing and then sucking up the water I have bad arthritis and my hands usually give up the ghost I’ve done 3 rooms not broken a sweat once and the carpets are lovely and clean.
It isn’t the same as a big carpet vacuum but it has so much power and is so easy to change and refill without the usual mess and again quick I just love it..it isn’t a mission it’s just quick and easy ideal for the car to
Ok I only have a small 2 up 2 down but if you have a bigger home get the big rug doctor and this as it’s just able to get where the big ones don’t get to the same

This is a great cleaner, suction is brilliant. I bought it to do my car as the dog gets it quite dirty, but I’ve also used it on my couch and carpets. I’ve added a photo of a test spot I did on a soon to be replaced old hall carpet… And another photo of the water that came out of the carpet AFTER I’d already cleaned the carpet with my Vax carpet cleaner. It’s not big enough to do a whole carpet, so I use the big one to soak the carpet then this to suction any leftovers. It is pretty loud, but because the suction is so good it makes it worth it.

I got my machine nearly a year ago .I have an elderly dog who refuses to go out in the rain,couldn’t manage without my Rug Doctor.

ive hired the rug doctor before and was impressed with its results ,so thought id get one for myself just for the stairs and a couple of rugs i have and im again impressed ,easy to use left rug only slightly damp and shocked at the dirt it removed and i didnt think they were that dirty either ,love the fact its portable as the large machines are good but awkward to use as can only go in 1 direction ,,,only criticism is that when first used it leaked but that was due to who ever put the machine through its testing not fitting the water collecting tank back on properly but easy to sort so be careful if it happens its not a faulty machine as my husband though
The Rug Doctor will do the job.
The rug doctor machine is a really great little machine, its small enough to put on the stairs as you clean them.
The only downside is you don’t have a very long pipe on the brush, so depending on the size of the job, your knees will take a hit.
But all in all it’s a good machine, and for the price it’ll do a good job.

Another ‘reviewer’ has said “using this machine is not for the faint hearted”. I agree. It’s down-on-ya-knees and get-stuck-in.
I always knew that would be the case as I’ve had connections with professional carpet cleaners in the past and they too had to ‘sweat-it-out’, so I was prepared. As I’m age 75 I paced myself taking regular breaks to rest and towel myself down .
Having seen the results of the professional guys I was most impressed with this little wizard. It was amazing. Although my carpet didn’t look particularly dirty, this wizard drew out some yuck, believe me (see photo).
BUT !! 90% into my first time use, the machine lost its suction. I followed the the user manual’s ‘Trouble Shooting’ suggestions but to no avail.
I’m just hoping Rug Doctors guarantee parallels their product. I’ll be back with a review rating on the outcome.

Fantastic carpet cleane
Fantastic product. Great for stairs I also did my whole bedroom carpet. Great results very good auction power. A little heavy and filling the tank is tricky.
Simple to use
Absolutely love this rug doctor, easy to use and cleans really well. One full application of water and shampoo cleaned a whole sofa without stopping to refill it.
I would highly recommend this to clean suites and stair carpet.
Going to clean car seats next!
