i bought this for putting up a few shelves, was a little confusing to work at first but once i got the hang of it it worked very well, it also feels well made and was delivered quickly, would definitely buy from this company in future
used it to find studs in dry wall tested it first on a newly built wall no plaster and it was spot on then used deep scan on a lath and plaster wall where i knew where studs were and it picked them up no problem although it took a couple of gos sometimes to get the centre ov the stud through an inch of plaster really impressed ,have to admit when i first got it i thought it was faulty until i realized you use it flat against the wall not like a torch there are sliding pads on the back so it doesent scratch wall when in use i also couldent work out how to turn it off but you just leave it and it turns its self off after a couple of minuets ,hope this reviev is helpfull
Great tool for finding electrical cables, i found detecting studs hit and miss. Overall great for the price.
I have some complex walls with double plasterboard, metal stud frames and wooden frames with lots of electrical sockets. I’m not convinced it always picks up the electric but knows something is there so alerts me. Got it correct with wood and metal when putting up a curtain pole. Overall good purchase and usable out the box. Remember to calibrate each time before use.
This is my 2nd scanner (1st lasted 6 years before playing up) but this 1 is much better. Its easy to use and the instructions are clear a not long winded. I’ve used it now on 4 jobs (DIY) and used all 3 modes (stud, metal and cable) and it very accurate and easy to read. would recommend.
I have used a few different stud detectors and I can safely say this is the best one yet. Ease of use is fantastic and the easy to read display makes it very usuable for anyone. The center of stud detector is just fantastic and very accurate.
The unit is light weight, even if it a little bulky in size. The audiotines are very clear and easily heard even in a noisy work environment.

I had this stud finder for quite some time now. It has been very handy and useful throughout by DIY projects. It detects studs, metal and ac wires quite accurately so far. The only shortcoming I noticed so far is, sometimes the detector needs re calibrate once it detects the ac live wire as it keeps getting the strongest signal even at the place where there is no live wires. So double calibrate is always recommended.
I needed a tool to be sure of where there was a wire in my wall. This tool quickly and accurately located it so that I didn’t electrocute myself.
Great bit of kit. Already helped me put up several things, really needed as new house is all stud walls!!! Sometimes don’t get accurate reading but I’m not sure if that’s due to the way I’m using it. Light, fairly compact easy to use piece of kit.
Was looking for a cost-effective stud wall detector as my daughter had just moved into an old flat that had been extensively reconfigured in the past and she was uncertain as to where she could fix a tall display cabinet safely (the floors are a bit off-level and the cabinet would not stand safely on its own). Follow the instructions on calibrating etc. and check a couple of times to confirm before proceeding with drilling etc. Would highly recommend this product.
Works well – does everything it is meant to do and with ease, once you’ve learned how to use it. Fortunately the instructions are clear.
Great value for money. Instructions can take some reading but it becomes quite intuitive after a while. I have tested this out where i know there are pipes behid a wall and it gives an accurate reading.
Originally, I really wanted to buy a Bosch detector, because all my tools are Bosch, but I am happy that I bought this for a quarter of that price.
My ceiling has 12mmm insulation + 12mm plasterboard + skimming. A total of 30mm.
I tested it on the Deep Wood settings and it had no problem finding the stud behind it.
Conventionally, you find the stud by finding the location of many scattered screws with a powerful magnet.
However, I like in this device that it finds the centre of the stud with more accuracy than the old-school magnet method. Also, it does it in a fraction of the time.
I am pleased with the buying.
I bought this after reading the numerous positive reviews and am happy to report that it is an absolute joy to use.
I bought it to check electrical wires before drilling holes into the wall for a series of shelving units (see photo) and am glad I used it as there were a few spots that the device alerted me. Hence I find this device invaluable and would highly recommend if you want your DIY project to be safe.
Instructions were clear and once you get the hang of using it and calibrating it, it will then become a breeze to use. The only thing I would point out is that it feels a bit too plastic-key, other than that it works wonders.
Does the job! Bought for determining whether old cables in my house were still live.
Can’t vouch for stud functionality as I did not buy for that purpose, but seemed to work correctly during calibration.

Started to use it almost immediately, does exactly what it says, had no problem in finding live wires, studs, and pipes, would certainly recommend this product. Let’s face it water pipes, gas pipes, electric cable, always good to know where they are before you start drilling and cutting.
The device comes with easy to read instructions and a battery, you can calibrate it very quickly on a known position easiest under a light switch which it will pick up the stud and electrical wiring. It doesn’t specify live or not and on regular stud setting it does not find anything when set to deep it works fine. And you must position your fingers on the side not on the wall or you just get false readings. it’s easy simple enough not bad at all for the money. I’ve just bought a cottage in Ireland and if has a new wing needing some improvements. Thus the reason for buying. It has found every stud position and noggin with relative ease. It does show you left and right and centre.
I ordered the Tavool Stud finder for use in a new build school of which I am the caretaker. There will be a fair amount of shelving and notice boards to be put up and I need to find the supports for these. Not having ever used one before, I felt I needed one that was easy to use and economical. Reading other reviews on Amazon helped a lot in my decision. I have used the Stud Finder quite a lot in the short time I have had it and have found it to be one of the most useful items in my toolbox. It does exactly what it says it will do.

I have always wanted one of these finder tools and finally got around to purchasing one. This tool is nothing short of amazing. Tested it on known locations for metal, wood beams and electrical wires and it picked them all up. Very accurate and has a really good centre locator function when looking for wood beams.
Instructions are easy to follow.

Only reason not 5 stars is you need to be a little careful with working through the different modes/calibration to make sure it’s truly safe to hammer. Overall I am very happy with product.

Bought this even though I own a similar Bosch product because I wanted one with a visual indicator which after having owned a couple of different detectors I find this indicator is far more accurate, it does a great job simple and effective please read the instructions carefully to understand the full use of this product but its a great addition to my tools and also at half the price and more of some well known branded products
I’ve been using this detector to locate electric cables and water pipes in a new house where hidden within dry-lined walls. Although it takes a bit of getting used to, the accuracy seems excellent, particularly if you follow the instructions and recalibrate the sensitivity several times. Of course the detector can’t differentiate between copper water pipes and metal studwork, but this recalibrating allows you to determine with good accuracy the width of the metal detected, and so it is then easy to work out whether you’ve detected a water pipe or something wider. Drilling in to a metal stud can provide a good anchor, not so good if you drill in to a water pipe!
I haven’t used it to detect timber studs yet, but I have no doubt it will be equally accurate and easy to use.
Just got it out the box and put it into practise before I move house and the DIY starts next week. Very good value for money and good quality product.
Purchased this to try and find the joists in the ceiling. The instructions were not very good and so had to look online for a video tutorial. However, I can’t seem to get it to work accurately and consistently.
Update 20/12 the customer service team reached out and we were able to resolve the situation amicably. Good response from the team! upgraded my rating from 2 to 5 stars. I hope all customer service teams respond like this.
Great product for the price. I was looking for some items to find out what’s below our creaky subfloorboards. Joists, cables, etc. This item does the job for all of them. Only used in one job so far, but seems to do what it says!
Got on really well with this product. I had one issue with a wall that said it had AC all the way through it, but I don’t think that was the devices issue. Worked a charm in every other wall.

Had a wall I wanted to hang a shelf on. Used to have a storage heater at the base so I wasn’t sure what was still left inside the wall. Used the stud finder to find the best spot to hang and was sure I wasn’t going to be drilling into any electrics or water. Very happy with product!
Easy to use once you get familiar with the instructions provided but it worth to calibrate using a live cable for AC for reference to get you started. It’s very accurate when come to plaster board partitioning, studs and metals.
I used this in my bathroom and found it so easy to use. I found out there was an electric cable I wasn’t aware of when hanging a mirror.

Very easy to use, set it stud finder , placed it on my hand and it confirmed what I thought I was a stud, 21 well spent in my view I’ve had doubts for a few years now and this machine has quashed them.
Just read the other reviews and realised this machine is for DIY and not testing sexual powers! It’s also very good for that I ain’t drilled through any electric cables yet using this highly recommended
Haven’t really given this a good thorough testing, but it’s worked great for me so far. I’ve used it for detecting studs, and electrical wires, and I haven’t hit one yet.
Excellent even for a first time DIY-er to use
I wanna go for a BOSCH at first, however, the price is too high for a casual user like me. This one is an obvious China made lower quality product, but it does the job! I have used it before drilling to mount my Dyson v10 and a new TV, the deep mode works accurately, very good value for money.
Very lightweight right out of the box which made me think it would be flimsy, but it’s actually a well built tool and seems durable. The display is big and readable, and scanning around the house it seems to be picking out studs and electrical wires with good accuracy, including picking out the edges of the studs. Very pleased!
Arrived this morning, not a moment too soon. My son wanted to put up some bedroom shelves in an old house, but I refused to let him drill until we had checked. And thank goodness we did!! turns out the house was built by sadistic cowboys who have sent both water an electrics from bathroom across the wall in seemingly random ways, no way could he have put up shelves on that wall! For 20, saved ourselves hundred in emergency plumbing!! This little tool is a lifesaver!
This item has done exactly what was described, and at the price is a must, the only reason I didn’t give it 5 stars all round was the fact that the plastic feels of a cheep quality, but at the price I paid that’s what you should expect. Overall a top product allows you to drill and fix with confidence knowing your not going to hit those electrical wires or those water pipes. A big thumbs up from me
flexible and accurate, and has a constant watch for electric cables, it can give you a clues to how a wall looks beneath the surface, but use in conjunction with caution and observation.
I bought this to use in my home, mainly for hanging pictures. I have been borrowing one from work which is more expensive but not as good as this one! I have only used it briefly so far but I’m very impressed with the funtions, it way surpasses the more expensive one and its very easy to use! I will be reccomending it to everybody I know, especially my son in law who was after one! Delivery was next day and well packaged.
I was skeptical that this unit would be as effective as said with how cheap it was, especially with it having the ability to detect the centre of studs in a wall.
However, when it arrived I was extremely impressed by how well it works. Bright clear LCD screen makes it very easy to choose the mode, calibrate and get detecting.
The key to these units is in the calibration. For stud detection find an area of the wall that sounds hollow when you tap it. Then hold the unit to the wall in this position and hold down the right hand side button until the bars on screen go from the top to the bottom. Then you can move it across the wall and it’ll show the left side of the stud found, the centre and the right hand side. Fantastic and very accurate.
It also works pretty well in detecting electricity cables when I tested it near switches and sockets. To calibrate for electical cable detection, hold the unit in the air then hold the right hand side button until the bars go from top to bottom. Then place on the wall to find the cables.
So far I’m very happy with the unit and it’s going to be essential in the various projects I have in our new apartment.

Needed to mount a 50″ plasma on a stud wall, first time ever doing this. The item arrived on time thanks to prime, first thought when it arrived was “damn, I need a battery for it” but upon opening the box the manufacturer had supplied one already in the box. The instructions are in clear english and easy to understand. Using the device was straightforward, it found the studs first time, accurately. The plasma is up and it aint going anywhere. I would 100% recommend this simple yet effective tool to anyone.

Very pleased that I bought this product as it detects accurately preventing any dangerous problems. It was delivered the same day I ordered it, fantastic. This is a very useful tool and all houses and flats should have one as it is so easy to use and an excellent product. I hung four extra large mirrors and it found the stud centres very quickly and easily avoiding wires. This is a versatile product that seems to do the job finding studs, metal and AC wires. Calibration is a bit fiddly, but once done it works fine.
A nicely designed product. Seems to be woring fine for me. Did not expect that it would require calibration each time you use it. It has mode fir detecting different materials. A combined mode for quick detection would be useful.
I tested it as soon as it arrived by placing batteries in and trying it out – I got all sorts of crazy beeps.
The I read the manual and found it needs calibrating to the surface each time – which makes sense as the material density changes.
Now I’ve RTFM it works a treat!

To practice, first read the instructions all the way through. Then find a wall where you know there is a power cable or metal. Using the high sensitivity find the cable – you will find it but the path will be wide and not accurate. Now following the instructions recue the sensitivity. Now you can accurately follow the metal or power cable. Try in another are where there is a cable – look near to wall lights and power sockets. Also try metal pipes until you are confident.
A little early to tell for certain, but seems as reliable as some of the more expensive, branded, competitors. These things are notoriously hit-and-miss, which is ironic. However, so far, it seems ok.
Good quality and price. Does what it’s supposed to and has helped me avoid a couple of pipes and electrical cables already as well as finding studs to screw in to.
The only thing I would say is to make sure you read the instructions as you need to calibrate it every time you use it or it won’t be very accurate.
Within a few minutes of opening the box was up and running. Unit was quick and easy to calibrate (ie press button while holding in a place according to what is to be scanned – see instructions).
Has already highlighted some studs for me and also pointed out electrical cables on back of wall!
Have given 4* for now as I have only used on one job so far, however I think it is going to be a great addition to my tool box.
Bought this stud finder after moving into a new house ful of stud walls yuk! but this little device is amazing it has never given me a false reading yet studs pipes or ac power cables never miss anything wish i had bought one years ago instead of drilling a series of holes to find the studs then trusting the first fix joiners were good enough to equi-space them i can deffo recomend this dont let the cheap price put you off and dont be a tool tart this is the one for you
The scanner seems robust and works well from my limited attempts. However, it is not that intuitive to use, so I will be keeping the instructions for the moment,hence the 4 stars.
This is a great little tool for new home owners who are not too sure what to do with a drill! It is reassuring to use this on the walls – it saved us from hitting water pipes in our bathroom! A must have for your tool box – very accurate and easy to use! Also if you are like us, you will find out where all the pipes, wires and wooden supports are in your house, as the tool can be quite addictive!
The stud finder assisted me when hanging curtain poles.
I was able to tell where the electric wires where so that I could avoid drilling into them.
Some areas required scanning multiple times to get an accurate reading
Nice bright screen, easy to use and calibrate, found the studs I was looking for and accurately alerted to center of each stud. Would by another if required. Good battery life and audible beep when detecting. I believe this stud detector is very suitable for the general DIYer and would recommend especially with its reasonable price.
Pretty good stud finder. You can get a few false positives, but you just need to re-calibrate a few times and it doesn’t take you long to work out exactly where all your studs are. It’s nice also to have the constant live wire detection – this can also give a few false positives but that’s certainly better than false negatives when electricity is involved!
When purchasing, keep in mind the distance that it can pick up objects it specifies in the description.
Other than the calibration, I found the device quite easy to use. Also, an added bonus was that the device came with a battery.
Overall, it’s much better than my old one and probably not worth spending any extra this is probably about the best you’re going to get for a wall detector.
Still working out how to get it accurate but at its basic level does the job really well. Trying to get consistent pin point accuracy is a bit trickier but will come with a bit more practise.
Used this in a new build where the internal walls are a mix of stud & block. The instructions are easy to follow & I was able to find power tracks easily either side of stud walls also pipe work . Stud finding took a little longer where the stud was a batten against a block wall this required some searching & was not easily apparent but on one weekend for a few small jobs worked ok just needs more use to become familiar with the kit. Good price for a better diy product.
Using this detector is very straightforward and detecting AC wires seems to work well. The detector needs to be re-calibrated for each location and to change the sensitivity but this is easy to do.

The product does what is says it does. It is very easy to use and you only have to put in the batteries and you are ready to go.
I had some trouble with understanding how it exactly worked with detecting different types of materials but after reading the manual a few times and trying it out on places where I knew for certain where materials are in the wall and it worked very well. Just try it out a few times and you understand how it works 🙂

I bought the Tavool TH250 Center Finder, Metal and AC Live Wire Detector from Amazon at a very good price. I wasn’t expecting much but am very pleasantly surprised.
Pros:
1)Very easy to use. You have to remember to callibrate it and this is a product where it is neccesary to read the instructions (which I nearly threw away).
2) It works and does exactly what it should…well!
3) Inexpensive
Cons:
1) A bit cheap/plasticky. Not one to throw in your tool box.
2) Will I remember the instructions when I lose the leaflet?
3) Doesn’t come with a pouch like my similarly priced laser measure did.
Overall, I would recommend this for the DIYer. It does what it should at a good price.

Excellent product, used to detect cables behind the walls in my house. The device helped me from making a mess, turns out that one of the walls I was planning on drilling through had multiple supply cables running through it. I would definitely recommend this, easy to use and very accurate.
I needed to establish if anything was located in the wall of our new house before I installed a new towel rail. The device accurately found the stud framework so I could actually fix into it.

I used it already to determine where electrical wiring is evident in the utility room and checked it against drawings as the house was built recently. Very quick delivery, I wanted to hang a mirror on the bathroom wall, but was worried about going through a hidden water pipe. I ordered this late in the evening and by 12pm the following day the parcel had arrived. East to use straight out the box (9v battery included) and the instructions are rather clear. The mirror was up within 30mins.
Easy to set up and use. Did not work for a few minutes but then successfully found the wooden stud behind a plasterboard wall. Not sure how accurate the centre indicator is, as seems to vary slightly when retesting.

I bought the Tavool stud centre finder and AC live wire detector whilst fitting a new kitchen, mainly for detecting live cable runs. This is one of the cheapest detectors on the market and I did wonder whether it would be any good. I have been pleasantly surprised by how well it works. It detects live wires accurately and also cable runs that are not live in its metal detecting mode. I have not used the stud detection. I have found that frequent calibrations, when in use, improves accuracy. Very pleased with product and highly recommend it.
Put a bit of copper pipe, a bit of 2″x1″ wood and the ‘live’ cable from an extension lead behind a bit of plasterboard. It found all of them and pointed exactly at the centre of the wood. I really did not expect such good results from a scanner at this price point.

My partner wanted a TV mounted on the wall facing the headboard in our bedroom. The wall in question was a stud wall, not solid block. I had difficulty in locating the wooden studs, so bought this stud wall finder to solve the problem. The device was simple to use and detected the vertical timbers behind the plaster with pin point accuracy. I was able to mount the TV bracket once I knew where the studs were. My partner is happy watching TV and I am happy with my buy – a great purchase.
When I purchased this item I thought that for the price, I was paying, I would be happy if it carried out the job I was buying it for.
Was I surprised when it turned up !!!!!! It’s a robust tool that can handle the knocks as well as similar products for 5 times the price.
It is very accurate in a four modes of operation and the added visual “Center” indicator makes life so much easier.
This tool is a welcome addition to my toolbox and I have no problem recommending it both the professional and the DIY’r.
The goods were delivered on time and well packaged.
It not only gave you the centre (no having to mark the edges and work out the centre) but it was constantly checking for live power cables as well (make sure everything is switched on) warning you about nearby cables when you were looking for studs. Fantastic. Tony
Easy to use, reasonably priced, very accurate location of studs, cables, etc. Recommended.
It is a really handy tool that has a lot of useful functions in household. It is risky to drill holes on a hollow wall where you want to hang a heavy TV for entrainment, I knew I should get a smart tool to help me out. After a litter research in Amazon, I finally found this tool stood out. I got it on the following day even I don’t have a Prime account, I am not regret to order the tool, it does the job as expected, now the TV is hanged on the wall safely.
The stud finder is super sensitive and works well, as long as you test it loads before you try to use in anger.
There were a few things that bothered me, one is the shape of it. It really needs to have at least one straight side so that you can run a sprit level along side it.
There is a handy grove top and bottom to help ideifty centre , so any mark you make can be in line but this wasn’t flush with the wall surface so introduced parallax error when marking the wall with a pencil.
It’s sensitivity also took a bit of getting used to. If your fingers are too near the wall then they produce false readsings.
I tested it on my table top first. So I could see the and feel where the beams of wood were under the table top. Once I valerbrated it I found it worked really well.
In summary
Great value. Detected electricity near where I wanted to work. Came with 9v battery included! For this price … fantastic
wanted a tool like this for a long time so finally took the plunge. pleased at how simple it is to use and after 10 minutes testing am confident to use on a variety of jobs around the house.

Great product light and versatile, includes the battery. Worked straight away and found the studs in the wall that I was working on. Helped me to avoid the electrical wires. The beep is not offensive and lets you know what you have found. The centre of the stud was also very accurate as I needed to expose the stud to make alterations. Brilliant detector wish I had purchased this years ago. Excellent.
Before fixing some shelves I attempted to find the location of the studs
using the “knock test” but couldn’t be sure exacally where the studs
were. While this device took a few goes to get right (I was moving it
across the wall too fast, I also found it more reliable if I kept it in
contact with the wall after calibrating it). I’m now comfortable that I
have located the studs.
The electric wire detector seems a little bit too sensitive to pinpoint
the exact location of the wires (identified wires within about 10 cm)
but it does give you piece of mind that there are none nearby.
I tested this through wooden surfaces and it accurately picked up the presence of metal objects and electrical wires. This seems like a very sensible purchase given the much greater cost of hitting a pipe or wire
This wall stud detector is an absolute lifesaver. It’s a 4 in 1 detector finding wood, ac cables, studs and joists. It has already been put to work and is simple to operate with both visual and audible information when it detects something. It also comes with a new battery, so after the simple calibration operation, it is good to go straight out of the box. I’d recommend this product, it arrived promptly and was good value for money.
Even compared results with a much more expensive commercial unit and its been just as good and a lot less bulky to use.
As has been mentioned in other reviews you do need to recalibrate for every surface but other than that it performs well, on smooth surfaces anyway, not tried it on uneven/textured surfaces yet.
Straight forward to use. Press the mode button, then calibrate against the surface being measured. Slowly move it across and it picks up the wooden beams (or whatever else you are looking for). It also picked up that there was an AC cable alongside one of the beams. I’ve not investigated any further to see if it was a false reading or not, but this gave a good head’s up to do a more thorough check for cables before drilling.

I received my Tavool stud finder 4 in 1 calibrated it and checked out cables pipes and stud work where I knew they were and it picked them all up very pleased with the item
