Does what I need
Brilliant product, connected to my Christmas tree and side lamp that I can’t reach in the lounge and connected to my Alexa app. (I have a hue bulb in something else already) All I need to say is Alexa turn on the lounge and we have light.
Much cheaper than other brands and there are two in a pack.
Easy to setup and works really well with phone and Alexa
These were very easy to setup using bluetooth to connect to the Tapo app on my phone and giving the plugs your wifi network login.
There’s a variety of options in the app including setting timed functions, grouping smart devices together (so you can control them as a group), pairing with Alexa, and sharing with other people (e.g. your partner). The alexa integration works easily, you just have to follow the process and give permission for your amazon account to access your Tapo account. After that the device will appear in the Alexa app and you can use voice control, calling out the name of whatever you’ve labbeled the plug (e.g. Alexa Turn On the ‘Christmas Tree’).
These were the first smart plugs I’ve bought and I’m really impressed. I will probably be buying more if I can figure out what I’d use them on!
Very simple and good quality WiFi plug
Best WiFi plug I’ve used to-date – super quick to connect it once you’ve downloaded the app and signed up to TP-Link. The app has a good UI.
Some may be concerned re. security of the app – i.e. only having an e-mail and fairly simple password requirements to register / login. Though TP-Link have been around for 20+ years and are reputable in consumer network equipment for decades. I’d trust they’ve considered this.
On top of that – this particular WiFi plug was given a Which? Magazine Best Buy rating.
Cheap price and premium quality
Did not succeed with Alexa integration, actual reason is… I did not get enough time. It was very easy to setup with app and schedule automation. Currently using for auto timing for Christmas ligh
Amazing!
Haven’t bought a smart plug before despite having a home hub and smart bulbs because of the price. But when I needed a smart plug to make turning the Christmas lights on and off easier I searched for a more affordable option and ended up with one of these. And I’m so glad I did, they’re so easy to set up, far easier than I’ve found smart bulbs before. It took seconds to sort and they work very reliably. I have now set schedules on them hich I didn’t even realise I could do when I bought it!! Will definitely consider buying again!
Easy to use.
Not used the timer so cannot comment on it.
Plug just required to be plugged in and so took about 10 seconds to have running.
Works great with Alexa.
As with all Tapo devices, easy to install and they do what they say on the box.
Keep buying more and more
These smart plugs are miles better than any of the other smart plugs I’ve tried.
No messing about with 2.4Ghz and 5ghz router settings. No jumping through hoops to set up, first time you do it, setting up the app on your phone takes 10 minutes max.
Then once it’s done adding more plugs is a 2 minutes event. Bluetooth connection to your phone, wifi password sent over, update the software on the switch and then rename it in Alexa and you are done.
I have now have 8 of these plugs in daily use and I love them.
Highly recommend these
Works well
I have 6 of these and the app is very easy to use and flexible (timing and remote control when away from home).
I have one plug which seems unhappy updating firmware – have tried 3 times and it keeps failing.
It would be great to have more icons available.
Have never had issues with Wi-Fi connection, but I have a decent ASUS router with 6 antennae.
Will be buying more as they work a treat.
So easy and useful.
Ok. I bought these when they were on offer and they turned out to be a real bargain. For such little outlay, I saved myself a lot of grief turning in and off sockets that were “hidden” behind heavy items (a piano!) Setting up was so easy using the Tapo app and everything has worked flawlessly although the widget on an iPhone seems a bit slow to respond. That’s an app problem that needs to be addressed. Would I buy them again? Definitely if they are on offer as a four pack again but, at full price or individually they are a bit expensive unless you have real use for them. The only issue I have with Tapo from tp-link is that their Kasa range is not compatible and this seems like an issue that really does need to be addressed if they are to get brand loyalty.
Recommend this brand
For a complete beginner to smart plugs these were so easy to get installed using the easy to follow instructions on the app. In less than a minute each plug was up and running and also linked to Alexa. Fantastic to be able to get all my lights on when I’m out and it is getting dark, using the app, ready for when I arrive home. Really happy with my purchases. Have bought 5 altogether now. Room for more…..!!
Dec 2021: Update your firmware to get remember last state
Lots of complaints about these plugs reverting to “off” after a power outage, there’s been an update since august but it needs to be manually applied in the Tapo app fixing this. I personally am very happy with these plugs, they are reliable and connect (and re-connect after power outage) quickly to the wifi network. Cheap and reliable.
The motor current limit of 2A makes sense as a 2A stalled motor will pull 13A. A 13A stalled motor might pull 30-40 amps. So as long as you’re using it for domestic lights and lamps and not your karcher pressure washer you’ll be fine.
Great Alexa Integratio
Just followed the instructions and connected easily with Alexa first time. Used to turn the Christmas tree on and off as the plug is behind the tv and would involve crawling under the stand to turn the tree off every night for the next 4 weeks! Named the plug ‘Christmas tree’ and now simply say “Alexa, turn off the Christmas tree”. Brilliant!
Awesome little dudes
I’ve got these on some inaccessible switches that control some delicate equipment. These have made such a difference as now I can turn off the power remotely and save electricity and hopefully extrend the life of my gear.
Unlike a WiFi extender I bought recently where setting up the “smart WiFi” was an absolute nightmare, these pair and activate extremely quickly which was a real bonus.
I will certainly be thinging for further uses for more of these.
Pleasantly surprised
I’ve had poor experience with no make plugs in the past.
Glad to try these in recommendation from a friend.
Set my WiFi to 2.4ghz, and the app found plug immediately, connected, updated, no problem, the second plug also worked fine.
Placed them outside in dry box to control Xmas lamps, glad to see WiFi was still strong.
Managed to use a Homebridge plug-in to bring them into Apple HomeKit, set automations and all done, fit and forget.
Perfect!
Super Easy Install
I bought these because I’m getting fat old and lazy so they are perfect for my needs, They are easy to install and you can shout at Alexa to turn them on or off without getting a death stare off the Mrs for raising your voice, so if like me you lie about the house a sloth then you can’t go wrong with these
Perfect smart plugs
I bought 2 of these for 2 lamps. Downloaded the easy to use Tapo App onto my Samsung and then plugged these in and set them up in just a few minutes. Timer function and schedule modes are easy to set up using the Tapo App and the plugs integrated with Alexa without any problems.
Can now switch my lamps on and off using voice via Alexa or the app on my phone.
I will be buying more now that I have been using these 2 for a few weeks.
Always wondered why Alexa seemed to be unresponsive
I have to admit that 18 months ago I received a bonus Alexa (series 1) speaker; but had no clue what I was going to do with it. I received regular emails to let me know what I could ask Alexa questions – like ‘How long is a piece of string?’ a couple of months ago I was told that I could ask Alexa to Play ” Boom Radio”, now that was more like it. Then My son suggested the purchase of 4 TP-link 13amp Wi Fi Plugs. Now, I can ask Alexa to turn the Christmas Tree lights no and off! My son is now introducing me to the benefits of voice control via Alexa.
Brillia
I am very impressed. Easy to set up. Just plugged in downloaded the app and set up with a breeze. I was a little worried as one of my smart plugs is located far away from the router which is a weak spot in our home, but it does not bother the plug as it works instantly and has no issues what so ever. I have timers set on the smart plugs which was easy to set up and is great for when you want the lights to turn off at certain times. Alexa also works brilliantly and use it to control the plugs. I honestly cannot fault them and would 100% recommend
Easy
Bought some cheaper smart plugs which wouldn’t connect so sent them back and purchased these instead.
These are far superior and connected straight away to the Tapo app, they were automatically picked up as well by the Alexa app and are easily controlled by voice commands.
Checks software on the plugs and easily updates them.
Old story, you get what you pay for…..get these they were hassle free installation and easy to set up.
Versatile timer as well as remote operatio
Bought four of these to experiment and was very impressed. The app allows remote control but also programming, and most impressive is the ability to set the socket to come on at sunset or sunrise with the option to set an offset – very useful for setting lights. Comparing it to a mechanical timer is is far superior and probably cheaper than most mechanical devices.
The plugs work throughout the building provided they can log on to the wifi network.
They do consume power but only around 0.5Watts in standby – around 4.3KW hours in a year, each.
Ridiculously straightforward
I see a future containing heaps of old mechanical/digital timer plugs.
Easy setup.
Instant integration with Google home.
Maybe a touch of cynicism from the other half until realising she could soon say ‘OK, Google, switch on Christmas’ & get her lights shining.
Google weird about refusing to set timers for outlets, but easily circumvented by telling it it’s a light, or set them directly in the Tapo app.
Been wondering about a bit of smart control for a while. Think these might be the top of a slippery but amusing/useful slope.
Good value, no nonsense
I needed a new timer plug for Christmas lights. I could get a traditional one with all the buttons and fiddly set-up or, for the same price as a fairly cheap one, a two pack of these. The companion app is easy to use, setting up a schedule took about a minute. A nice surprise was the fact that it integrated with Alexa automatically (I just had to give permission) and now I can turn the tree lights and outside lights on with a quick voice command, as well as via the app.
Fantastic value
Bought this as a low price alternative to the expensive ones I already have as I need to control the Christmas tree.
This is brilliant!! Just download the app and follow simple instructions to connect to Alexa.
Easy set-up
Good value multi pack. Very easy and straight forward to install- you have to first install their app then link to Alexa. I particularly like that they are small plugs with an unobtrusive indicator light. I have some of the older smart plugs that are huge in comparison with a big blue light on the front which unfortunately works like a magnet to toddlers who take great delight in pressing the irresistible glowing button on and off and knackering the plug which then needs a complete re-set. I can recommend these plugs.
Great Wireless Plug
These plugs are so easy to use. Download the TAPO app., plug the plug in and wait for it to flash orange and green. Click the + button on the TAPO app and follow the on screen phone instructions. At the end the plug will perform a Firmware update. You can then control the plug from the app, set up timers and also use both Alexa and Google to turn them on and off.
I have six in total and have never had any problems with them at all.
Excellent value for money
Purchased during black Friday week for a great price. Not all that expensive even when not on offer.
Work really well, quickly found when plugged in (but like most plugs 2.4ghz WiFi only) and connected to Alexa via the. Tapo skill. Powering the new chrimbo lights perfectly with one plugged in the garage and one indoors. Both working perfectly.
Fabulous
I spent a long time looking through reviews for smart plugs for Alexa and thought I’d give these a try as not too expensive and a good percentage we’re positive. Easy to install the free app from Tapo and it doesn’t ask for all sorts of info. Took less than 10 mins. Works well so far! Small size so fits well into sockets.
Just 20 minutes from arriving at door to synced with my Alexa
Arrived two days earlier than estimated so a very good start.
Opened the pack scanned the QR code and easily downloaded app. I’ve a few plugs and bulbs but first on this app..
Registration was quick. Set up was very easy and simple to link to my Alexa. I haven’t rated the timer function as all
my devices are voice controlled via Alexa.
I can highly recommend these plugs for hard to reach sockets, saves scrabbling under the Christmas Tree to turn the lights
on and off. Just ordered a second one.
Great Plug, Easy to Setup and use
I was looking for a couple of smart time clocks to replace the manual time clocks. I have a Hive system but couldn’t justify paying 40 for their time clock. I saw these advertised and decided to buy 2 to try them out, got the TP110 model which means I can monitor the energy usage. Very nice design and the app is very easy to use, took 2 mins max to set up each plug and that included updating the Firmware on the plug. Once set up, setting up time schedules is very easy and I like the “Away” feature where you tell it a time period that you want the plug to turn on and it will randomly turn the plug on and off during that period. Going to buy more of these as they are handy to have and so easy to use
Best devices I have used for remote control of power outlets
Previously I have used timers – which have been OK but I was relying on neighbours to confirm they were working correctly
Now I can control the lights over the internet – so on these dark nights I can turn them on as I arrive home or when on holiday whenever I want
There are schedules that can be set for On and Off and also a randomise option to vary the switching times
Easy to install and manage
Simple to configure with their App. and works well with Alexa.
Very simple to set up using the downloadable App’ from the Play Store. Once connected to Wifi via the App’, the each one did an update to ensure they were on the latest hardware. Easy discovery once the App was connected to Alexa. As an example, provide unique names for each plug Eg. Sitting Room TV Plug. And then simply say “Alexa Turn Off the Sitting Room TV Plug” and hey-presto. The TV goes off…
So easy to set up and sync with Alexa
This product is excellent value for money. It is so easy to set up, and Alexa integration is a doddle. I use one of these on one on my 4 was extension leads. It makes it so simple to switch several items off at once when you are finished with them. Things that would normally go to standby when not being used, can now be turned off without having to unplug physically. In particular, I use one to switch on my dual computer monitors.
Work a trea
I’m not a complete duffer with modern tech but I’m no maestro either. I had no trouble installing the app on my phone for these sockets. Easy enough to set up with ‘Alexa’ too. This is my second purchase of these sockets. First ones I installed at home and they worked a treat. I now have some set up at our static caravan so I can control an electric heater from the house and I can also power up a security camera. Easy to set up, easy to use and seem reliable so far. If I need any more ‘smart’ plugs I’ll be getting more of these.
A Very Useful, app controlled Mains Switch
This product is brilliant as not only can you set infinite timers via the app, you can set to come on or off at sunset and sunrise – or do a plus or minus offset from those times. As this information is derived from the internet it automatically adjusts on a daily basis. For example, in order to stop my security lights from being falsely triggered during the day, I set them to come on at sunset plus 20 minutes and to go off at sunrise minus 20 minutes. It has a low profile, so unlike many mains plug devices, it does not obstruct an adjacent socket.
The one annoying things is setting up. Rather than listing the WiFi signals it can see for you to choose, it chooses one itself. So, if you have another nearby WiFI signal – for example you are running a VPN, you have to turn it off (they do actually tell you this).
It doesn’t work with Apple Home hub.
Make sure you download the TP-Link Tapo app as there is another unrelated one just called ‘Tapo’.
Nice little Wi-Fi plug
Can be used to control multiple lamps. Xmas lights, fans etc. and anything you want to use via a 13amp socket. Very easy to set up by downloading the apt on a phone and following the instructions. Can be controlled by Alexa, google or by the phone whichever suits the user.
Brilliant remote control timeswitch
The app takes a bit of getting used to, but once you get to grips with it, it’s fine. Things like setting a plug-in lamp to come on at sunset for certain days of the week, are seldom possible on devices at this price.
These are the next best thing after the remote control.
If like me most of your appliances are left in standby mode because you can’t be bothered either moving the furniture or stretching like a numpty to get to the socket then these are for you. No more stretching, no more moving stuff, you don’t even need to get up. A few simple words and it’s off. I just wished I had bought these sooner.
Tapo Smart Plug.
Stroke Victim, therefore my Son had to plug it in initially.
Easy to set up & adjust timer. Which I did from the Tapo App.
Now Electric Blanket turns on 1/2hr before Bedtime.
Or, if you don’t want to use the Timer, you can turn it on & off via your Smartphone using Tapo App.
I also have the Smart Bulb by Tapo which has worked Flawlessly for 12 months.
I must point out, you will need a 2.8 ghz Router or Dual Band Router, ie, 2.8/5ghz for ALL Smart devices to work.
2.8ghz is a bit slower, but goes through thick walls a lot better.
A lot of Routers are Dual Band, but check first! Before you complain.
Hope this Helps Someone.
Easy and reasonable range
I now own 6 of these plugs in total, and initially got a little frustrated and annoyed due to they keep disconnecting as per some of the reviews on here. So I did the firmware updates via the app and things did settle down a little and the resetting of the plugs became less frequent.
3 of these plugs are in my detached garage whereas my Wifi router is in the house and yet they still functioned as normal so that was a bonus but I still had to reset them from time to time.
Then due to other reasons, I attached a new wireless access point to my router rather than using the stand isp all in one hub job, and since that day I have not had to reset the plugs once.
And they work as per the label.
There are a couple of downsides in that these won’t integrate with the Kasa plugs also made by TP_link and also they don’t work with IFTTT but Alexa functionality is adequate.
Overall a good plug to hide away and voice control or use with Christmas lights maybe.
Brillia
I got these when they were on offer 26.99 for 4, they are easy to use with the tapo app, turn everything on and off when ever I request, I can use Alexa to turn the lights on, when we are away looks like someone is in, the Tapo app also switches them on and off remotely, I bought 2x 4packs and a 1x2pack, really good. Easy to use easy to install, when they are on offer I’m going to buy some more.
Going to get some as Crimbo pressies if they come back down to 26.99. For my family.
They are brilliant, I use them to isolate all the electrical equipment, they use very little power so am well chuffed with the ones I got.
Simple - effective
This twin pack was easy to install (set up one at a time and close to the router). The Tapo app works well but it’s even more convenient once linked to Alexa. I set two lamps up, gave them separate names so they can be controlled individually but I also put them into a group (“Lounge lights”) so I can control both at same time. Voice control works 90% of the time and always on a repeat, clearly pronounced.
You can’t also set them on timer or a random on/off so lights will be on whilst you are on holiday. I will buy more (when they’re on special offer again).
Great gadge
Really love these, used them to have my lights on a timer when away on holiday, was able to use the drop in feature on my echo show to see if they had switched the lights on which they did, easy to set up and control, got a great deal on the twin pack and will buy again if on offer.
Very Impressed..
I have purchased 5 of these Tapo 110 wifi plugs in the last week while they were on offer on Amazon Prime and (at present) am so glad I did.
They are a breeze to set up via the Taco mobile app, I have android and it took no more than 3 to 4 minutes to set each plug up and that also included a firmware update for each plug.
You can set up timer events on the app if you so wish for your lights or other devices to come on, you can turn them on and off via your mobile app and it was simple to link my Alexa up to these devices..
I currently have my fish tank lights, bedroom light, fan, downstairs light all set up with Alexa who turns them on and off immediately I ask..
Thankfully I have had no drop out connections since purchase as a few others have mentioned in their reviews. The prices have now gone up since yesterday so I think I have had a bargain and am extremely happy with these as it makes life a little bit easier around the house.
Would highly recommend…..
Great features, good value if bought as a se
I wanted to control my outside lights so that they all came on at Sunset each day without having to constantly change the timeclock as my outside light system consists of several circuits controlled by PIRs and change over relays but the time controlled part is by a plugin timeswitch (all properly fused on its own lighting circuit). I looked at lots of solutions, mostly very expensive, then came across a review of these TAPO smart plugs, problem solved. The lights now all come on at Sunset each day without having to adjust the time manually and I can ask Alexa to turn them on anytime I like. Well worth the money and I have 3 smart plugs spare to use elsewhere
Fantastic, however so few things are only turned on/off at the plug
The devices are fantastic, so easily integrated into Alexa for voice control. The only issue is that I’m only using one of them, as so few things only turn on or off at the plug.
For me, the ability to turn the sandwich toaster on and off to make my toastie at lunch time is fantastic. However, the second unit sits unused, as I even for lighting, you find that people turn on/off instinctively with the in-cable switch, so being able to turn off at the socket is pointless.
If you do have trailing cables that you would like to hide, then these would be fantastic, but I just don’t seem to have too many uses for these!
Great item, on/off from anywhere in the world!
Really nice item and easy to setup with Google assist. I have a pc in the attic and every now and again I need to hard reset. Simple case off “hello Google, turn off server” and walah, then “hello Google, turn on server”.. this works from the app via WiFi or 4/5G as long as your phone has an Internet or home WiFi connection you’re set.
It would be nicer to not have to wake the phone up for the app to activate though, as yet I’ve not found a solution for that.
easy home automatio
purchased two twin packs of these plus for some home lights / computer desk etc.
they have replaced some cheaper smart sockets that have failed.
they were really easy to set up, my hub has 2.4 &5 Ghz wifi, and since i already had the tplink cameras i already had the app, so… plugged the socket into the wall outlet and hey presto it was found and installed within 30 seconds and after a firmware update my socket was ready.
installation was really quick and so so simple using the bluetooth onboarding process, with this feature there was no need to disable the 5ghz band on my home hub. the socket/app automatically set the preferred 2.4ghz band along with my network password key etc.
all i had to do was set the socket’s name and location (bedroom/living room etc) and hey presto !
I would defo recommend them and i will be ordering more as soon as i need. 10/10
UPDATE: just purchased a further 6 sockets to automate more devices/lamps/lights around my home,
these sockets are amazing and just so easy to set up , incredible !!
Absolutely bloody brilliant!
Superb WiFi switches… Sooo easy to set up, had 4x P100’s set up including stand alone timers all set up in about 15 minutes. Dead easy to connect to WiFi and Google Assistant. Integrates in seconds. I can ask Google to turn on/turn off lights and it’s almost instantaneous. Superb system… You get a WiFi Google Assistant/Alexa controlled switch for little more cost than a good digital timer. So good and easy to set up that I’ve ordered 4 more the same day that these arrived. I set these up using the latest Sky Q router which is dual band and they connected seamlessly. Highly recommended
Works great with Alexa
Bought this after purchasing an echo dot and being so impressed with the Alexa setup. Again very easy to setup and link to your echo and works instantly when asked to switch on, can see this being an excellent addition at Christmas for the lights, no longer having to stretch through the tree getting scratched to death
Simple to setup and work grea
I have these setup in my mancave connected to quiz and arcade machines so that I can turn them off and on from Alexa, the integration with Alex is very simple to do, you need to setup the plugs on the official app and then you can add them as Skills within Alexa, i set these up on a 2.4Ghz wireless channel for the Wifi connection and have had no problems with them connecting or being responise.
Works great with nest mesh wifi
Previously used Teckin smart plugs but when I upgraded to a nest mesh wifi system had lots of problems with plugs not being seen by smart life app or Google home app. Installed this 4 TP Link smart plugs all up and running within 15mins. Google home could see these as soon as the Tapo app was linked to Google. Cannot believe I put up with so many problems using my previous Teckin plugs. Nice to see all of my smart home now works as it should. Recommended.
Simple set up
These smart plugs are so simple to set up it took me by surprise. They don’t overhang the other outlet on a 2 gang outlet, they work like a charm. Installing them couldn’t be easier. From the app select + plug in the Tapo it flashes orange and green. Select continue and keep the phone as close as you can and it then ‘finds your phone. Select your wifi and input your password update it, give it a name and job done, literally in a few minutes. .Even the most hamfisted user would struggle to have an issue. You can set timers for dusk to dawn, on and off at set times, on or off from the app, on and off using alexa, set countdown timers for them to switch off, or an away setting which randomly turns lights etc on an off Home Alone style. I probably sound like someone who works for Tapo. I’m not, but when something does what it’s supposed to do without any drama it needs to be supported. If only all electronics worked as well as these do.
Exceptional plug automatio
These Tapo plugs are a step up to my previous remote plugs and move me closer to fully automated home. This is especially useful now with electricity bills rising and focus on switching off those devices that languish on standby. One-touch and they all switch off but when power fails they remember the last state and return to that once power resumes.
They are small and fit easily on standard outlet without block access to switches or the other sockets. It would be nice to see the range expanded with multiple plug extensions available in other TPLink ranges.
The Tapo app could do with some improvements but I am sure those will come in time. All in all I will certainly get more of these Tapo products and add them to my home automation solution.
Very easy to use and perfect consistency
I love this plug. I have it on a timer so that my Espresso Machine is warmed up in time for a shot. I love the ability to set a timer for when it turns itself on and off. Although it doesn’t have Apple HomeKit, there is an app called Watt that will create a Siri Shortcut, so now I can tell Siri to turn or off the machine.
I also love the little power button on the side. Sometimes if I’m in the kitchen and want to turn it on, I would have to go upstairs to use my phone, but the button allows me to quickly switch it on. Only noticed that yesterday lol.
Very happy with it. Would buy more if I had an excuse to.
Excellent product as always, I love these new versions, Kasa was crap compared to tapo. They physically fit better and they have better features. An example being the energy monitor now has a 1 year consumption which is amazing. I would like if I could see consumption separate into months so I can see how much I use but I personally have my calendar set up to remind me monthly to see what the 30 day amount is and do it that way.
I have them all setup, takes around 4 min with each (10 took me 40 min to setup). Now they are all in place and working great.
By the way check out the settings for “Default state” set your electronics to Off. This means when the smart plug loses power (power cut for example) and it previously had whatever was connected “on”. It will now clip off when it loses power, so it won’t just turn on power immediately. This means if there is the power going on and off from surges or a power line down (had this last winter) it won’t fry your equipment!
Just received these,I bought a 2 pack as it was good value. TP-Link are a quality brand which is why I picked this one over the many other Smart plugs.Plus Amazon had thousands of positive 5 star marks.
First down load the Tapo app and register, very easy email, password and a confirmation link next-
When you first plug it in the led will alternate between green and amber
Open your app press on add device o push the plus sign.Follow the on screen instructions the device will add and allow you to change the name from smart plug to table lamp for example.
You will then be asked if you want to link with Alexa or Google.
I have Alexa it pairs easily through logging into your Amazon account.
Right now the 2 issues that you don’t get told.
Firstly if you plug the smart plug into my an extension lead Alexa doesn’t see the plug.
The smart plug will still switch off remotely with the App.
For instance I have a fish tank plugged into an extension lead.I bought the smart plug to switch the fish tank light off.Alexa doesn’t see it but I still switch the lamp off remotely with the App.
Second problem Alexa will not switch a Lamp on plugged into a smart plug if it is a touch sensitive lamp.
Both of mine are,I have to touch them to switch them on.Alexa will however switch them off.
So buy these plugs if it is for devices that switch on and off and plug them directly into a mains socket and you won’t have any issues.
Now I know they are good and easy to set up on reflection the 4 pack or bigger packs are the way to go,
Hope this helps someone.
Brilliant! Easy set up, simple Alexa integration & working spot on.
Searched a while for smart plugs – ended up going with the TP Tapo and not been disappointed.
A couple of things led to choosing these, the TP link brand and their other electronic products, other reviews on Amazon & after downloading the app was happy with the interface.
Did not take long to set up at all and integration with Alexa was straight forward and seamless.
Setting up commands, schedules and routines is straightforward and both schedule and voice control works well.
Brought two to try, very happy and will be buying more for additional smart control around the house.
Plugs works with Alexa!
Thought this would be a pain to install because at first didn’t find The plug, so I turned on & off my Bluetooth & found them straight away! The plugs was so easy & simply to install and find. Price was excellent. Also works with my kettle along there’s water in and switched on, so got excited about that Bought these plugs for my lamp while I’m away. I definitely recommend. No doubt I’ll be buying again when my son see’s the plug’s
These are the type of gadgets for me ..... practical & reliable.
Well to start with I’m gadget mad! My better half reckons that I’m bonkers when it comes to gadgets. My excuse however is that if it can save me getting up from the chair then its worth it! So there!…. So I bought 4 of these TP-Link Tapo Smart Plugs and very quickly connected them all to the wifi. They were to replace some cheaper smart plugs that failed within a very short period. Was I impressed… was I! These units are very responsive. The app is spot on. So I made another excuse and bought 4 more. This time to control some external lighting that worked on time switches… which of coarse you have to keep changing as and when the dusk/dawn times change throughout the seasons. Well dig into the settings and you will find that these plugs also will follow those very same dusk/dawn on/off times, so I shall never have to adjust any time switch ever again…. brilliant. See I told you I liked gadgets… and yes bought another lot for controlling internal table lamps or the C/Heating that you can also control from miles away if the occasion demands it. Excellent smart plugs these are that have behaved impeccably in the many months since I purchased them. Unlike, regretfully, several of the cheaper smart plugs that we have purchased here that appear to have to re-booted (electrically switched on/off) periodically in order to carry on working or fail altogether. Most annoying. Be aware that they don’t work through the SmartLife App and only work through their own Tapo App. Anyway its a thumbs up jobbie from me, and yes I would recommend. All IMHO of coarse.
========================================
As a recently invited Amazon ‘Vine Voice’ I understand that periodically I may receive ‘freebies’ to review from Suppliers. Well this is not the case here. Above goods were all bought and paid for by yours truly.
Much cheaper than Amazon’s own smart plug which is over 20!! Works just the same, the only difference is that you have to download the Tapo app to your phone and link it with Alexa app to get Alexa integration. No big deal. Overall a great improvement on old fashioned timer plugs which take an age to set up and then you have to keep adjusting to take account of shorter days/nights or when the clocks change twice a year. Also, the 7 Tapo plug allows you to set a very simple and useful ‘Away Mode’ which basically turns the plug on and off at random, so you can use it with a lamp or radio plugged in to act as a burglar deterrent. The Amazon Smart plug (24.99) cannot do that.
I don’t know why people get wound up about having to give your location to set up an app, you can just switch off location on your phone afterwards if you want. And why exactly is it such a big deal when half the world can easily find your location these days anyway?
So Easy!
I use these plugs with my Google Assistant. They were really really easy to set up using the Tapo app. I did have a couple of times when they didn’t function properly with Google Home from my phone but that seems to have sorted itself out now and I haven’t had any problems for a few weeks. The plugs work really using voice commands to my Google Nest Hub and Nest Mini.
I can’t believe how cheap they are! Not only are they cheap, they also seem to be good value, which is not always the case with cheap things.
I would not hesitate to buy these plugs again. The only reason why I haven’t is because I don’t really have anything else that I can warrant using them for lol.
I look forward to using more Tapo products in the near future.
Love these
Already had one for my lamp. Decided to get another 2 for the others love that you can set them to come on or go off at anytime on the app. This is especially great if we are out till late. Just plug it in with the devices plug in this turn on connect to app and away you go. One of the easiest things we have set up. We also have the indoor camera off these aswell it’s great.
Easy set up. Works with Google assistant as well as Alexa
Purchased to replace plug timers used to switch on/off aquarium lights. Set up was very easy. Just plug in the socket, download the app and after a few minutes it was ready. Easy to connect to my Google Home app with just a few clicks. Best of all, so much easier to program than the old electronic timers, and can be done from anywhere as long as you have an internet connection. Lots of possibilities, e.g. switching on a light just before you get home from work, switch on the coffee maker in the morning so it’s ready when you get up, Christmas lights, etc. Tested with the Google assistant (“hey Google”) and it works perfectly. Small enough to fit next to other plugs in a 4-way plug socket. Would definitely recommend.
A great aide
First off do browse what’s available, I needed 4 and found it cheaper to buy two packs of the double ones. The only trouble I came across was the wall sockets I have, when the switch was on, these wouldn’t fit, I had to resort to using a gang socket. Not a big problem as they are hidden behind furniture. But the big plus for me being arthritic was Alexa switching the lamps on and off, no more struggling bending down to turn each individual lamp off, great for anyone with mobility issues. Easy to set up, would recommend.
Great plug!
Bought this on a prime deal when I purchased my Echo Show, paid 2.99 for the plug, wpuld never have thought to buy it had it not been part of a deal, to say I’m delighted with it is an understatement! Why have I never bought a smartplug before now! Very easy to set up and works well with Alexa. Buy, buy, buy! Can’t recommend enough!
Set up was ok – it took three goes to connect the first plug but, once connected – all good
Pros
Cost, ease of use, Alexa integration, no unique hub like Hive or others
Cons
Needs an account to set up, must have internet connection to initially set up, requires a separate app, no Apple Watch App integration, lack of other products – despite what the app says
Above all – this is a great product at a superb price. Smashed Hive out the window with regard to cost but, as I specially needed a Plug operating a fan whilst on the Peleton, I had to have a hive plug that could be operated from my Apple Watch.
One of the most impressive parts of the integration is setting up a routine with Alexa who, will activate lights at dusk – ie it dynamically changes every day – not something stand alone competitor products can provide
Definitely recommend
Brilliant for holiday homes
Do you have a guest house, holiday home or caravan and are tired of flat batteries in your hoovers etc? Then invest in these. I have them set up so I can ensure the cleaners always have a full charge after guests kept either turning off the sockets, or left the hoovers with no charge. I can monitor and set timers so I know there’ll be a full charge when needed, and also if the socket is turned off.
Excellent smart plug.
I bought this to go along with my amazon echo and to work with my bedside lamp. This is the second tapo plug I have bougbt, I am getting on a bit but find these easy to set up without stressing myself out too much. They are also more reasonably priced than some of the other plugs.
They do what they are supposed to do, and I am very pleased with them.
Easy setup and long range
Needed something that would allow me to turn garden lights on and off situated at the bottom of the garden in the garage 20m away from back door – these do the job. What’s not quite as obvious is that they can be set up on a schedule by time and day of the week. There’s also the ability to make sure you’ve not forgotten to turn stuff off by putting a simple switch off option at 3am or a time of your choice across the schedule
Does the job well- I am happy
Absolutely amazing and great value!
Wow….. where do I begin? At the start I was very skeptical about these plugs especially with how cheap they was! However after reading the reviews I took the decision to buy and I wasn’t disappointed. These plugs are easy to install and add to and to set up the app. Once I had done that I enabled the skill on alexa too and away I went. I now lay in bed and say “Alexa turn on bedroom lights” or “Alexa turn on wardrobe lights” and behold they turn on and off as you command. As my plug lights are all in each of the smart plugs. You can set routines if needed too. Just make sure you update the firmware of the sockets on the app which is very easy. Value for money and a great quality product.
Easiest smart device/app with nice schedule
My main use for these is for the scheduler to turn some tools on/off multiple times a day so the app the device uses and how its scheduler are the main important things for me.
Tried multiple smart devices and this one is my fave so far, this device uses the Tapo app.
Allows me to set 20 scheduled timers and when adding a schedule, actually reorders it for you in correct time order. Other products I tried use an app called ewelink or smart life. ewelink only allows 8 scheduled timers which is pretty much turning a device off and on 4 times a day which is not enough for my needs. Smart life app is ok but the ui is no where nice as Tapo and does not re order schedules that you add so they can be confusing to use
Cool handy device
Pretty easy to setup, can turn off remotely and set up schedules for when to turn on.
I bought this to turn on a heat mat for some plants I was growing, was pretty good and worked well. Now it’s used for a camera in my son’s room.
Does exactly what you’d expec
Firstly this was delivered promptly with updates all the way. When opening the box and setting it up took me 10 mins maximum. I had the Tapo app and added the plug to it. This now controls the garden lights to switch on at night when it’s dark for when I let the dog out the back garden, I also have lights at the back stairs which I use when I’ve been out which may be off when the scheduled timer is set to switch off which isn’t a problem as you can switch the socket on manually using the app. Another plug switches a fan on in the bedroom, this is where the countdown timer comes in handy incase I fall asleep when the fan is still on. Premium look and feel I highly recommended
Easy set up - child’s play really couldn’t be simple
Allows an easier way to turning a lamp on and off or any appliance via Alexa whereby the plug is in an awkward place, very impressed as it was easy to set up! In its “pairing” mode it’s easier using a socket on workbench height (in kitchen for example) and once paired, simply plugged it into the socket it is to be used from.
Small and easy to integrate into Google Home
These plugs are great compared to other brands we used before, as they are small enough to fit side-by-side in a standard extension lead. The integration with Google Home was very easy and they work flawless. We use them for lamps and even heavy duty devices like electric heaters. Overall a well designed product. Their size is the biggest advantage over competitors!
It does what it's supposed to. Like being able to tell Alexa to turn my light off.
These are great. Shame you need one for each appliance. I’d like to be able to have both bedside lamps attached to the same one. Quite expense if you want them for lots of places around the home. Having said that, easy to install the app and get it to work. Clever tech.
Kasa and tapo plugs not the same!
Ok people let me tell you like this it’s a smart plug turns on stuff and turns off stuff the problem is the plug it self it two company’s kasa, tapo that make the same size look ing plug one is kas to link the over is tapo to link. the top will not work kasa app even thow they look the same ,if you’re like and you have kasa app already and you try to use this plug it Wii not work go to qr code on box and download the tapo app . good luck
Been looking at smart plugs for a while, but couldn’t justify the price vs use until I grabbed these when on offer at the equivalent of 5 per plug.
Kept one back to use with Christmas tree/lights, the other three are connected to a lounge lamp and indoor fairy lights at front and back of the house.
Already got Router setup with dual wifi (2.4G and 5G) using the same wifi name and devices connected with no issues, didn’t need to separate the wifi to detect 2.4G.
Wasn’t sure if plug at back of the house would detect wifi as it’s at the edge of the house wifi range and also connected to 6 way extension but it did with occasional drop out but reconnects and good to go again.
Easy to setup each plug, although for all three after setup and naming them in the app the plug lost their name so had to type back in again, but other than that no other setup issues.
Currently go them setup on schedules to switch on/off and the app is easy to use and adjust any schedules. Also added Alexa Tapo skill and works well with voice control, pending back room plug with wifi drop outs but knew about my wifi limitations before buying them and happy with purchase.
Was getting too old to get on my hands and knees to switch on fairy lights at back of the house so does the trick.
TP-Link Tapo Smart Plug Wi-Fi Outlet, Works with Amazon Alexa (Echo and Echo Dot)
PROs,
Easyish to install – Make sure you are on a 2.4g network.
Small And compact.
Can be fitted side by side with other plugs in a double socket or multi-extension.
CONs,
Does not use KASA like previous TP-Link smart sockets.
The indicator light is very dim – can be difficult to see – so difficult to check if on or off.
I don’t understand the current trend for situating the On-Off/Set-up button on the side of the plug.
When I pull a plug out of a socket, I grip it by the sides which often means accidentally pressing the button.
Also, if the plug is plugged in adjacent to other plugs or devices, the button cannot be accessed.
Tapo/Kasa/Deco apps issue
Be aware that if you have existing Kasa plugs and use a Deco system to improve your wifi ,then this plug will require a further app ( even though all 3 are TP link products)
ALL apps MUST use the same email AND password as they use the same TP link servers.
I was unaware of this and found myself locked out of apps I had been using for the past few years as I set up the Tapo app with a different password.
Good small plug though – easily worth the 7.99!
Much easier to set up than some others.
Really pleased with these. One of our old existing smart plugs lost connection, had to be reset and then set up again. For that plug, you have to turn off the 5G band on the router as it won’t connect on 2.4G otherwise. Easy to do through the router app. Old plug set up again BUT…new phone last year and it won’t connect to the router on 2.4G so I could not turn the 5G back on. Got the provider to do that but decided we needed new smart plugs in case of future issues. Tapo units connect via their app, so easy, no messing with the router, sorted in minutes and connected to Alexa. They work just fine and much smaller and neater than the old units. The app can also be used to set timers, switch the plugs on & off, all on or off with one tap when arriving /leaving home, even turn smart bulbs on at sunset automatically.
It works!
Bought as a bundle with the echo dot 4. Was a bit of a long winded process of setting it up, not difficult but why do you need to download another app and give all types of information. It’s just a plug surely it could just be recognised by the dot and connect automatically! Once up and running it works well, just say turn lights on and the lamps come on, turn off and they turn off – what more can you say about a plug?
Pain to set up, but after that works well
It took multiple attempts to set this up, first you have to download the Tapo app. Then you have to create an account. Then you have to link the Alexa app too your Tapo account. Then your Alexa device has to find the Tapo, which for me took many failed attempts before it would work. Having been through that it works flawlessly. The Amazon smart switch is three time the price but five times easier to use. The Tapo is ok if your willing to go through all the hassle of setting it up. Added comment, I bought two more because they are much better value. This time the set up was easy and straight forward. It’s just the first time set up that was a pain.
Does exactly what I wanted it to and works perfectly
I bought this item as I needed to control an EARC Audio Extractor as I had encountered some first-world problems after finally upgrading my 13 year old TV.
I chose this smart plug as it has a low profile, a good price and promised Alexa integration.
Setup was really easy with the manufacturer’s app to upload WiFi settings and linked to Alexa without any problems and this plug does exactly what I hoped it would do.
I don’t use or need the timer function at the moment but as everything about this has worked so well I don’t doubt that it would be fine and if I need any more then I will definitely be buying these again and will readily recommend.
Love everything about these with one exceptio
Was using another smart plug that was more than double the price for a single plug, these work flawlessly with one exception. We have one plugged into our Sky box in the lounge as sometimes it can crash and if your upstairs it makes like easier (I know first world problem). This works great except when there is a power cut, the plug has no way to turn back on or resume last state so if you had recordings due after the power cut you lose them.
Not 100% sure on the TP Link brand as they have other similar plugs labeled as another manufacture so not sure what’s going on there, but for this love them and would recommend with the caveat about power cuts.
Small unobtrusive
Once you get your head around having to have TP app to get them loaded onto you home internet, link straight away with Alexa devise. Can also use TP app in addition to turn on from mobile or set timers on or off. Device being controlled has to be left on and in case of kettle or coffee pot don’t forget the water!!! Did have one unit would not register but unplugged it left it a while and bingo worked there after.
Absolutely PERFECT
I was looking at the other plugs on here, they seemed good enough for what I was using it for. Then I saw this one and the amount of reviews, I thought I’d give it a go…. Was NOT disappointed.
It was so simple to set up and get going (almost plug & play)
The app is easy to use and navigate too.
Alexa integration is a breeze, once you’ve got the app working, just ask Alext to find new devices and it walks you through the next step. Then you’re all set.
The timer is a great idea as that’s another reason I bought this.
You can either have the plug turn on/off once the timer reaches zero.
Great for plugging a fan into it so it stops without running all night. Plus if you wake up needing to cool down, ask Alexa to turn it on agai
Buyers be aware
I bought these tp link smart plugs to replace my timers which were connected to table lamps etc. What I found through the TP link app they could be timed to come on OR timed to go off. I couldn’t set them up to come on at one time and go off at another time Ona daily basis. There is a work round but you need an Amazon echo. I have three Amazon Echo Shows, this allows me to set the time on via the TP app and to set a routine on the Amazon Echo Show to turn them off. Other than that I love them easy to set up, one of them lost the internet connection on one day.
Loads of clever functions that you can program or command using Alexa.
I am very pleased with the functionality – particularly with the timers – not just on / off at a time and/or day range but you can choose things like minutes before sunset which is great for lamps and changes to suit the date. So far, excellent and something that you can use in more situations than you initially think because of the amount of clever functions you can program. These also come in far cheaper than the Amazon own brand plug, and work just as well
Effective smart plugs with intuitive app
Was looking for a way to control multiple devices via my mobile devices. The Tapi smart plug fulfilled that effectively.
The set up instructions were simple to follow. I had the app and first plug set up withing 5 minutes.
The plugs are connected to the WiFi network and control can be shared to multiple users via the app.
Users interface shows the status of all plugs on one screen. You are also able to set individual timers for each smart plug it simple had a count down to turn a device on our off.
There is a power on off button on the plug if your device is on another room.
Overall, effective product and works as advertised. Highly recommend it. I’ll be looking at other TP Link smart products on the market.
Make your old tech smart!
Really easy to install! I use it plugged into my bedroom lamp and synced it to my Alexa works great! Fast response time too. These plugs are great for turning old tech smart. I might get another for my iron so I definitely know it’s off when I’m at work lol
What an amazing toy
Right, I got these to play with them. I got 5 in total. They are dead easy to set up. You download and open the Tapo app. Select the “add device”. Plug in the plug and follow the really simple instructions. I had mine set up and working with Alexa in under 5 minutes. After that you can turn them off and on with either the app or with Alexa as in “Alexa, turn Timmy off”. Why “Timmy” you ask? You have to give the plugs names and I named mine after the Famous Five.
A Sausage could set these up, so easy...
I really Respect Tapo Products so easy to set up. Can be controlled anywhere via a Mobile Device with a data connection. Now I don’t need to worry about staying out late, with a simple On/Off switch via the Tapo App I can turn on Lights & even a Radio to give the impression am in.
Tapo Smart Plugs came in a well presented box as with all their products. Instructions are a tab small printed but once you set up one the rest easily follow. The best thing about those Tapo Smart Plugs is, I only paid just under 22 for a pack of four. Amazing value for a Security Product in my case. Will most certainly be purchasing more in the near future. Highly recommend this product…
Dropped from 5 stars because the app is not well developed for initial install compared to other WiFi plug brands.
It connected up fine once you know how to “short circuit” the app sync with your router.
Yep thought it was the true Kasa TP-Link but it wasn’t otherwise it would have been a doddle as I already have that app configured with my other (non-Teckin) WiFi plugs & extender.
I bought these as a replacement for the appalling Teckin plugs which were swiftly returned for a refund.
Excellent buy, poor app
Does exactly what I expected. Works with my Alexa, but initial setup via its app was tedious and time consuming. Would recommend but be aware it’s own app can’t be difficult to function and set up.
More useful than initially intended, but not "perfect"
I purchased these purely to avoid having to flip the main difficult-to-reach power socket.
Using them with devices whose standby power is greater than the standby power of the connected device has proved *quite* useful.
However, the android application does not appear to support android widgets, so all interaction with actions/groups etc. has to be done with the relatively limited spatial constraints of the application. Additionally, the application will occasionally require logging in afresh, rendering all connected plugs as “new” devices (albeit ones that don’t require setup).
Can be tricky to set up if you are not careful
First off these work very well with my Alexa setup and all are functioning as expected. But… I had one set up and then went to do another 2 a few days later and I had issues with the app and indeed Alexa operating the wrong (already setup) plug. To cut a long story short I ended up uninstalling all of them and then restarting from scratch doing one after the other and that worked. Remember also these are simply a switchable socket nothing more, so are really only suitable for ordinary table lamps not touch sensitive ones. (or any device that can be switched on with a physical switch)
A good and versatile produc
The plug works well and is compact, so it does not block the switch for the socket it is used in, or block neighbouring sockets. The associated smartphone app to control it is well-thought-out and versatile. Schedules for the automatic switching on and off are easy to set up. Configuration of the plug for first use is relatively easy, though I found it sometimes took several attempts to persuade it to talk to my wifi: it uses bluetooth to talk to the smartphone for initial wifi configuration and did not always pair easily.
I had major problems from the outset in getting the schedules to work. This was not due to a fault in the plug. The advertising blurb says that schedules will work without needing internet access, as they are stored in the plug itself. This may be true but, it seems, they cannot be set up in the first place without internet access, and my router settings caused it to block internet access for unknown devices, like the new plug, although it allowed the plug wifi access to my LAN. It took considerable interaction with TP-Link support before the problem was diagnosed and then everything worked fine.
The tech support was excellent; they responded very quickly and did not give up easily.
A simple, effective product I am really impressed with. Works great with Google Home.
I went a bit mad recently and replaced all the lightbulbs in my house with smart bulbs and control them all via google home minis in all the rooms.
I use the app to turn on and off the lights in the lounge, but what I found was I would always forget to turn off my wax burner in there and it would stay on all night! I purchased once of these plugs and connected the wax burner, so when I go to bed and turn the lights, I can turn the wax burner off too.
The app is really easy to use and add the device to your Wifi and then within the google home app, it is then really easy to add it to a room.
I now have a few of these in my house that I use for floor standing lamps that are not compatible with smart bulbs and could not recommend these more. Great piece of kit for the price.
Works well
Overall this wifi plug works well. It’s not too bulky if the plug can be seen. Set up is easy however if you are sharing it with a family member then ensure they also download the app and register first as this makes it so much easier. Great product and would recommend it.
